Letter from the Principal
We here at Choctawhatchee
High School would like to wish
Mrs. Elaine Anderson all the
best as she embarks upon the
next stage of her career
journey. Mrs. Anderson
(formerly Elaine Carr,
Choctawhatchee Class of
1975), who has been a
mainstay in the Guidance
Department for 16 years, has
been named No Child Left
Behind Specialist for the Okaloosa County School
District. Her last day at Choctaw is March 28 th . She has
made it very clear however, that she will be at
graduation this year to wish her seniors well. While we
are sad to see her to go, I am confident that Okaloosa
County will benefit greatly from her expertise. I am also
very confident that Mrs. Anderson will remain involved
in the Big Green cause. Once an Indian, always an
Indian! Thank you Mrs. Anderson for all you have done
for Choctawhatchee High School.
I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful Spring
Break. Come back to school on April 7th physically and
mentally prepared for a strong finish.

The Okaloosa County School Board has approved a
price increase for the 2008-2009 school year. The
county-wide meal prices will be as follows:

Free SAT-ACT Software for Military
Families
For the second year, a group of NFL, NFL Europe,
AFL and CFL football players have sponsored
several million dollars worth of $199 SAT and ACT
test prep programs to every family in the U.S.
Military (all branches-active or retired).
Specifically, the sponsorship allows any military
person (active or retired) to request as many
programs as they need for the students in their lives.
The Department of Defense has created a secure
website to quickly confirm a person's military
status. Website below.

Mock AP Exam
Ms. Haynes is sponsoring a Mock AP
English Literature Exam on Saturday,
April 19 th at 9 a.m. Students should
report to the Media Center a little before
9 a.m. and be prepared with pencils and
pens. Students may sign up with Ms. Haynes in
Room 2B01 or with Mrs. Outlaw in Room 2B06.

ASVAB
The military will give the Armed
Services Vocational Aptitude Battery
(ASVAB) to Choctaw students on April
9. This is a test that that is required for
career choice for those joining the military, but which
also provides all students valuable information regarding
strengths, interests, and possible career options for
future endeavors, both military and civilian. Juniors can
sign up for the test in Guidance starting on March 3.
Seniors who missed the test last year and would like the
opportunity to take it may also sign up in Guidance, but
will be placed on a waiting list. Deadline for registration
is Thursday, March 27.

college visits posted DAILY in our Daily Bulletin.
The New IT Institute
The new IT Institute @ Choctawhatchee High
School is tailored for
industry and career
goals. The IT national
certification tests will
allow students to enter
directly into the job
market or continue training at a community college
or university with a Gold Seal Scholarship earned
from three IT elective credits. If you are interested
in learning more about our new Choice program,
please contact Mrs. Million.
Consumer Science Department
The Bad News--Life Management Skills is no
longer a requirement for graduation
The Good News—LMS is still being offered as a
one semester elective credit
This course will teach students “Street Smarts
You Won’t Learn in the Streets.”
Topics to be covered include:
Substance Use/Abuse, Sexual Abstinence
Alcohol, Tobacco, Drugs, STDs, Teen Parenthood
Communication, Lifestyle Diseases, Conflict,
Bullying, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Decision-
Making , Nutrition, Goal-setting, Eating Disorders,
Careers, Emergency Response
This course includes a variety of guest speakers.

Class Officer Elections
Class officer election packets are available in the SA
office now. They must be completed and turned in at
the mandatory election meeting on April 9 th at 2pm in
room 1C02. Students must have their speeches
approved by the class sponsor and must do this prior to
April 9 th . If students or their parents have any questions,
please contact Mrs. Smith or Mrs. Yuhas at ext. 631.

WBGI News
WBGI is currently working on the 2008 Senior
Video. We are currently collecting pictures from
Elementary School, Middle School, and High
School for the video. WBGI is also attending the

The TV Production 1 class
is currently editing the
movies they have been producing this nine weeks.
They are doing an amazing job and having fun with
it! This project included the students writing a short
narrative. They then presented the narratives to the
class and voted on the two they would like to
produce. They voted on “The Lockdown” by
Stephanie Yoo and “Indian Idol” by Charis
Wiegand. They fully produced the movie: writing
the scripts using correct format, as well as
operating the cameras and tripods as well as
microphones. They are now in the editing stage.
KICK BUTTS DAY: April 9, 2008

SEIZE CONTROL in the fight
against Tobacco! KBD is the
Campaign for Tobacco Free
Kids' annual celebration of youth leadership and
activism. On April 9 th , students at Choctaw will
educate their peers about the dangers of tobacco,
while giving them tools to take matters into their
own hands and achieve real results in tobacco
prevention, control and education. Several booths
will be set-up during school hours to provide
information regarding statistics and prevention as
well as visual displays. Tobacco is the leading
cause of preventable death and disease in our
society. By giving students a chance to make
decisions about tobacco and make a difference in
society, youth become more empowered to say
"No" to tobacco. Please, start talking to your child
about tobacco and the risks involved with its use.
You don't have to wait until April 9th - there is no
time like the present to start this journey. Students
are faced with so many social, peer, and academic
pressures, the last thing they need is to find release
through tobacco.

Northwest Florida Blood Drive
The next blood drive will be held April 25th.
Prom Portraits
Bill Miller Photography is offering formal portrait
packages of individuals that were taken at the prom
for $40. The package includes a framed 10 x13
portrait, as well as four wallets. These are not the
"couple" or "friends" portraits that were previously
purchased. The packages will be given to students
after Spring Break and can be purchased or

Prom King and Queen
The students elected Luke Schmitt and Ashley Bedoya
as the Prom King and Queen for 2008. This year’s
theme was “Choctaw Royale.”
Thank you outgoing Captains Allyson Johnson and
Melissa Gaccione for your dedication and leadership in
making the 2007-2008 team such a success. Also, a
BIG thank you to all the Indianette parents. This
program would not be possible without your continued
encouragement and support.
Powder Puff Football
The First Annual Paula Buchanan Powder Puff Football
Game will be held May 16 th at 7pm in Etheredge
Stadium. Admission is $5 for everyone except children
5 and under. There will be an informative meeting on
Tuesday, April 8 th for all girls interested in playing in the
game. The meeting will be held in Mrs. Nowell’s room
2A10 right after school.

Athletes, Parents and Coaches
The Pre-participation Physical Evaluations for the
athletes of Choctawhatchee High School will be
conducted Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 6 pm. The
evaluations will be conducted in the cafeteria.
Athletes should be accompanied by a
parent/guardian, should have their student/athlete
Steroid Drug Testing form and Pre-participation
Physical Evaluation forms with the medical history
portion filled out and signed by a parent/guardian.
Parent Permission form will also be required and a
Notary will be available to notarize the form. All
forms are available at school or from the coaches.
All incoming freshmen need to bring their birth
certificate. Athletes should be dressed in shorts and
t-shirts. Athletes will need to have the Preparticipation
Physical Evaluations to participate in
Choctawhatchee’s summer programs.
The cost of the evaluation is $25.00. This fee will
be donated by the participating physicians to
Choctawhatchee’s Athletic Training program to buy
equipment and supplies that will benefit all athletes.
