AHA NSW Awards for Excellence 2008
Mercure Sydney
A word from Dr Jerry Schwartz ...
We have clearly identified that philanthropy is an important
issue in an industry where we are dealing with people.
In particular, when we have a positive cash flow situation, we
are more able to give away a portion of it.
We actually find the annual award formulation advantageous,
because it allows us to focus on our future plans.
Other than continuing our current diversity of projects, we
have particularly ear-marked the following:
The local community
We see the need to assist various charities in inner Sydney.
Despite the assistance of other larger organisation, and government institutions, there
are still large gaps that need to be “filled” in the CBD. We have a particular interest
in supporting the homeless that is men, woman and children. This has been a very
significant part of our fundraising in the past and we will continue to make this a priority.
Sports
By donating to the Junior Ice-skating Association,
we have found a “minority” sport where there was
apparently little lustre in assisting. These children
that have been skating from age 3 have become
Olympic Junior champions!
We are currently commencing discussions with
Sydney Olympic (Pan-Hellenic) soccer club about
assistance with a club house.
