McGuire employees help
Long Creek, Oakdale schools
Employees at Duke Energy’s
McGuire Nuclear Station in
Huntersville recently completed
their “Tools for Schools” collection
drive and donated supplies
to Long Creek and Oakdale elementary
schools students.
The employees donated 10,700
sheets of paper, 1,824 crayons,
1,094 pencils, 391 erasers, 375
colored pencils, 362 pens, 190
markers, 150 mechanical pencils
and 122 spiral notebooks.
“With the budgets of area school
systems shrinking and attendance
rising, this annual event truly epitomizes
the efforts Duke and its
employees make to the communities
in which it operates,” Valerie
Patterson, communications manager
for McGuire Nuclear Station,
said in a news release. “The
beginning of each new school year
brings a feeling of uncertainty to
many families and students, but
the employees at McGuire do
their part in helping out our local
students so that a simple lack of
necessary school supplies doesn’t
hold them back from excelling in
their studies.” q
