GEAR UP AND GET CYCLING<br />

■■ Water <strong>Sports</strong> with <strong>Chelmsford</strong> Canoe Club<br />

Learn new and improve existing skills on the water with qualified instructors. All<br />

participants must be able to swim 50m in clothing. Consent forms must be signed by<br />

parents on arrival.<br />

HIC1 is a three day Kayaking Skills course. Older children will be given the<br />

opportunity to gain a BCU 1 Star Award (weather permitting).<br />

HIC2 is for Kayak Slalom Beginners. An introduction to the Olympic Canoeing<br />

discipline of Slalom. Learn essential paddling skills then see how quickly you can go<br />

through the course without touching any poles.<br />

HIC3 is a Canoe taster. Enjoy paddling two-person open canoes along the rivers of<br />

<strong>Chelmsford</strong>.<br />

HIC4 is an Introduction to Flatwater Racing, another Olympic Canoeing discipline.<br />

Receive initial training of paddling forwards then try racing kayaks over the new<br />

Olympic distance of 200m. Can you get close to the current World Champion time<br />

of 36 seconds<br />

■■ Bikeability<br />

The cycling proficiency of the 21st century!<br />

HBK1 is Bikeability Level 1 where you learn to control your bike. To receive your<br />

Level 1 certificate you must show you have the skills to ride where there are no<br />

cars and that you are ready to start your road training. All work will be done away<br />

from the road.<br />

HBK2 is Bikeability Level 2, a four day course where you start riding with real<br />

traffic, sticking to quiet roads. To receive your Level 2 certificate you must show you<br />

have the skills to make a trip safely on to quiet roads and cycle lanes.<br />
