Automation-friendly CoolBox XT and double-capacity CoolBox 2XT Workstations are benchtop cooling stations
that provide over 16 hours of ice-free cooling for your samples without electricity or batteries.
CoolBox XT Automation-Friendly (AF) Workstations include the outer CoolBox XT housing, a proprietary
dual-phase XT Cooling Core, and one or two CoolRack ® or CoolSink tube or plate module with SBS-footprint to
fit laboratory automation devices.

All CoolBox XT workstations are highly adaptable and can accommodate a variety of automation-friendly
CoolRack and CoolSink sample holders for microfuge tubes, cryovials, PCR plates and strips, u-bottom plates
and flat bottom tissue culture plates. The portable workstations are an ideal solution when a brief transfer of
temperature-sensitive samples to a robotic device is needed. The sturdy, thermo-conductive sample module will
maintain your samples at a temperature below 10°C for approximately 20-30 minutes when removed from the
CoolBox XT. Transfer the sample module back to the CoolBox XT workstation and samples will re-equilibrate to
4°C in less than four minutes.
When working with frozen samples, load the optional XT Freezing Core into the CoolBox XT (AF) Workstation
and process or transport your frozen samples for over 8 hours. Or, place dry ice in the base and create a compact,
ultra-cold (-78°C) snap-freezing station for bacteria, virus, proteins and more.

PERFORMANCE

Two CoolBox XT Systems were loaded with
XT Cooling Cores that had been stored at
-20°C for twelve hours. Room temperature
(RT) CoolRack XT M24 modules were
placed on each cooling core until the temperature
of each reached 2°C (approx. 8.5
min.). Then, 24 TruCool 2ml microfuge
tubes, each containing 1.5ml of RT water,
were placed into each CoolRack module
and the temperature of three of the tubes
in each module at positions R1C1, R2C2,
and R3C3 (where R indicates the row and C
the column position) was monitored and
recorded every 0.5 second using an Omega
data logger. The data on the left was performed
with the lid closed; the data on the
right, with the lid open.
