The new direct restorative procedure
In the past, placing posterior restorations involved considerable effort and time. In order to
compensate for the polymerization shrinkage, several layers of composite had to be applied
and cured. What is more, a complete cure of thick composite layers was impossible to achieve.
Tetric EvoCeram ® Bulk Fill takes the effort out of posterior tooth
restorations. This composite can be placed in 4-mm increments
in posterior teeth, rendering the application of various layers
and intermediate curing unnecessary: place and sculpt,
and cure for 10 seconds (light intensity > 1,000 mW/cm²):

Extended working and modelling time
A longer working time is usually needed to sculpt and contour monolithic 4-mm increments
than to place conventional composite layers, particularly when reconstructing cusps. Tetric
EvoCeram Bulk Fill contains a patented light sensitivity filter which minimizes the effect
of operatory and ambient light and thus ensures a longer working and modelling time.
This light sensitivity filter acts like a protective shield. However, it does not delay the
polymerization process initiated with a curing light.

Shrinkage stress relievers ensure optimum marginal seal
To avoid marginal leakage, only composites with low volumetric shrinkage and shrinkage stress
are used for the 4-mm bulk increment technique. Special shrinkage stress relievers are integrated
into the filler composition of Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill. Due to their lower elastic modulus, they
act like microscopic springs during the polymerization process and thus reduce shrinkage stress.
This allows Tetric EvoCeram Bulk fill to achieve optimum marginal integrity.

Tetric EvoCeram ® Bulk Fill
The bulk-fill composite
4-mm cure due to the light initiator Ivocerin ®
Ivocerin ® , the patented light initiator incorporated in the standard photoinitiator system
allows 4-mm bulk increments of Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill to be completely cured in just
10 seconds. Ivocerin is a polymerization booster that offers greater reactivity to curing lights
as compared to camphorquinone and Lucirin.
Translucency, shade and curing depth are not compromised, as is often the case with
composite restoratives containing only conventional initiators. The highly reactive Ivocerin
allows the material’s translucency to be established at a level of 15% similar to that of natural
enamel.
Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill comes in three universal shades
which demonstrate enamel-like translucency:
• IVA: Universal A shade
• IVB: Universal B shade
• IVW: White shade for deciduous teeth or
light-coloured permanent teeth
