The golf program took over the old West Course pro shop, which moved to its new headquarters in the Henry Center. Meanwhile, Michigan State took the reins of the facility and it was completely renovated for use by the varsity golf programs. The MSU Golf Complex, which is located on the 13th hole of Forest Akers West Golf Course, houses the coaches offices, a team room which displays their successful history and lockerrooms for each team. Each studentathlete has their own custom-built oak locker with space for all necessary golf equipment. “The Rearick Golf Facility is one of the best in the nation,” said MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. “It gives our student-athletes a place that they can call their own.” Team Room Spartan lockerroom 44 M i c h i g a n S t a t e S p a r t a n s • w w w . m s u s p a r t a n s . c o m

The outdoor practice facility, which is located at the Forest Akers East Course, includes a three-acre bentgrass practice tee, a separate teaching tee, practice bunkers, target greens and a 20,000 square foot putting green. The facility also features color-coded yardage markers indicating the distance from your tee to each of the six target greens on the range. There is a tee area, bunker and putting green set aside exclusively for the use by the Spartan men’s and women’s golf teams. “The Golf Center benefits our recruiting efforts, and makes a huge difference in our short game,” said Slobodnik-Stoll. “The practice bunkers and putting greens allow us to structure those aspects of the game into our daily practice schedule.” In addition to the outdoor facility, the women’s golf team has a brandnew indoor practice area. The Mary and Bruce Fossum Indoor Practice Facility, located next door to the Rearick Golf Complex, houses two areas where MSU’s men’s and women’s golfers can practice hitting yearround regardless of weather conditions. The practice facility contains a putting area, practice bunker for sand shots, state-of-the-art video room, as well as a club fitting room. “With the putting green and new flex hitting mats, our off-season facilities are complete,” said Slobodnik-Stoll. “Regardless of the weather, our players are able to hone their skills.” In addition, the golf facility features the V-1 video swing analysis system, which gives coaches the capability to analyze players’ games during practice sessions. The innovative V-1 Swing Analysis Software allows players to digitally record their swings, allowing for a comprehensive analysis. The V-1 Software also enables players to compare their current swing with a previously recorded swing. “The V-1 system allows both the coaches and the player to see the progress of the player’s swing and monitor their improvement throughout their collegiate career,” remarked Slobodnik-Stoll. “The indoor facility has been a wonderful addition to our program, and we are so thankful to our donors for making our dream a reality,” Slobodnik-Stoll added. 2006 graduate Dayna Burleigh uses the V-1 Video System to analyze her swing. The V-1 System is one of the best in the state and allows players to improve their swings in the off-season. 8 Big Ten C hampionships • 34 All-Big Ten S elections 2007 graduate Heather Rose works on her putting in MSU’s state-of-the-art indoor practice facility.
