Bill ’52 and Marilyn Oline Add <strong>to</strong> Harry C. Kent Graduate Scholarship<br />

When he passed away in 1991, alumni and<br />

friends established a fellowship in memory<br />

<strong>of</strong> Harry C. Kent ’52, former geology and<br />

geological engineering department head and<br />

faculty member. This year Bill Oline ’52 and<br />

his wife Marilyn substantially increased the<br />

Harry C. Kent Petroleum Geology Graduate<br />

Scholarship endowment with a gift <strong>of</strong> more than<br />

Harry C. Kent<br />

$100,000. Bill was Harry’s roommate during<br />

their undergraduate years at <strong>Mines</strong>, and fondly remembers his impressive<br />

pho<strong>to</strong>graphic memory and tireless involvement with activities ranging<br />

from band <strong>to</strong> men<strong>to</strong>ring local youth.<br />

Private scholarships keep a <strong>Mines</strong> education<br />

within reach for all high-achieving students, giving<br />

undergraduates the opportunity <strong>to</strong> shape the future<br />

through science and engineering. Fellowship support<br />

for graduate students enables <strong>Mines</strong> <strong>to</strong> attract talented<br />

scholars <strong>to</strong> its incisive research teams and equip them<br />

<strong>to</strong> develop specialized expertise.<br />

ConocoPhillips Opens Doors for <strong>Mines</strong> Students<br />

Since 1998, the ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars Program has provided<br />

financial assistance as well as leadership and service opportunities for<br />

65 <strong>Mines</strong> graduate and undergaduate students. SPIRIT Scholars gain<br />

hands-on exposure <strong>to</strong> ConocoPhillips and valuable industry experience<br />

throughout their college careers. In addition <strong>to</strong> $5,000 annual scholarships,<br />

students receive pr<strong>of</strong>essional development, men<strong>to</strong>ring, and <strong>to</strong>p<br />

corporate, foundation and organizational<br />
