From The
Executive
Director
Hello again,
We are just a few days
away from Lander’s big
summer kickoff weekend. The
Lander Brew Fest has grown
to 2 days. The FART ride is
growing, and the Wind River
Rugby Challenge and a Car &
Bike Show have become part
of the weekend’s festivities.
We are expecting
between 2500-3000 visitors
from all over the country for
the weekend and I hope we
can make them all feel
welcome and have a great
time.
Wyoming Travel &
Tourism is expecting a good
summer visitation season and
our own website statistics look
very promising as well.
Tell all your friends
what great things there are to
do in this area and help bring
as many people to town as
possible.
Sincerely,
Scott Goetz
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
See you in September!
A Message
from the
Chamber
Board
President
First and foremost I want to
plug the Chamber’s annual Brew
Fest. It will be held the evening
of June 8 th and the afternoon of
June 9 th . Mark your calendars,
buy your tickets, and join us for
some fun. Visit
www.landerbrewfest.com for
more details on this expanded
two-day event. There will be
good food, great beer and live
entertainment. You can click on
links on the website to get a
sneak peak at the featured bands.
Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy
this Lander-style event!
From what I’ve read over the
last couple of days, it sounds like it
may be a long, hot summer here in
Lander. West Nile carrying mosquitoes
have officially arrived; the
grasshoppers (at a magnitude of
100 per square yard!) are soon to
follow; and municipal water users
are already being asked to conserve
water. In other words folks,
buy yourself a case of bug spray,
stock up on car wash tokens to get
rid of the grasshopper guts you are
about to endure, and roast your
s’mores over the fire soon before
the campfire bans begin.
Don’t let me get you down. Of
course summer in Lander also
means a fabulous Fourth of July
celebration, summer concerts in
the park, the Farmers Market,
hikes to the falls, visits to the ice
cream shop, golf, baseball, and so
much more! Think Local, enjoy
all that Lander has to offer, and
appreciate the tourists and events
that bring a boost to our local
economy.
Once again, don’t forget to
utilize your valuable Chamber
benefits: update your member
profile on our website, drop off
some business cards or coupons,
and post a “Hot Deal.” The summer
tourists are a-comin’ and they
need to know about your business
and what you have to offer.
See you at Brew Fest!!!
Sincerely,
Sarah Sweeney
Parks & Recreation
Highlights
Lander Parks and Recreation is extremely
fortunate to have many volunteers
dedicate extensive hours to our community
parks. Last summer Nathan Linton’s Eagle
Scout project involved scraping and
painting our Sinks Canyon Center. This
spring, Terrell McNiven for his Eagle
Scout project, reconstructed the rotted
deck on the Sinks Center.
Bridger and Jeff Kimber coordinated a
grant and volunteers to help erect three
flag poles on the edge of the Little League
“Reynolds Field”. They look really
awesome when a breeze is blowing.
The Lions Club constructed a shelter
over the picnic tables at the Lions Shelter
in City Park last summer. This summer
they are completing the project with the
This week new wood fiber was spread
at the City Park playground by the LDS
Youth Group.
The Forestry Crew from the Honor
Farm has been invaluable for clearing
wooded areas for fire safety and access
for our residents to public land.
The volunteer Skate Park Committee
has obtained the final plans for the
Skateboard/Bike Park that will get built
next summer at North Park when
additional money is raised.
The volunteer Greenway Committee
has mapped out a future pathways plan
for the City’s new Master Plan. They
flagged the future pathway that will go
behind the Detention Center along the
Popo Agie River.
The volunteer Parks and Recreation
Committee are looking at upgrades to
Centennial Park along with plans for
future projects. Cade Maestas and Mike
Lillygren along with Parks and
Recreation Crews constructed a Frisbee
Golf Course in McManus Park,
completing one of the Commission’s long
time goals.
The volunteer Tree Board (Lander
Urban Forest Council) continues to
advocate for Lander’s Trees with an
Arbor Day Celebration, tree pruning
workshop, tree giveaways, work days,
and fund raising for new trees to replace
our aging forest.
all those named and unnamed who help
make Lander a special place to live and
The Rotary Club of Lander is
celebrating 75 years of service to
the local, national, and international
communities. Started in
1936, the local club is part of an
international organization with
1.2M members who serve people
in primary areas such as literacy,
disease prevention, and community
development. Rotary is the
largest service Club in Lander.
Lander Rotary currently has 73
members – just short of a goal of
75 in honor of its 75 th year. Current
club President, Mark Randall,
says the Club is in a growth phase
and is attracting the same caliber
of members as has always been
the case. “Rotarians in general are
professional men and women who
have a desire to network, serve
one another, and help those in
need,” he said. Locally, the Club
has provided service in a number
of ways: from distributing free
dictionaries to third graders, providing
scholarships to local high
school students, and financially
supporting various non-profits and
service agencies throughout Fremont
County. This year, the Club
adopted a “Charity of the Month”
program that raised money each
month for outstanding agencies
such as the Care and Share Food
Bank, One Stop Help Center, Lander
Children’s Museum, and the
Lander Pet Connection.
The Club also sponsors a Rotary
program called Interact
within Lander Valley High
School, and a leadership program
called Rotary Youth Leadership
Awards (RYLA). The local
RYLA effort is one of the top two
among all Rotary clubs in the
country. Lander Rotarians like to
have fun, too. The Club sponsors
the annual Buffalo BBQ on July
4, and this year, hosted their first
annual, “Shamrock Shindig” on
March 17 that raised over $8,200
– monies that will go directly
back into the community.
Perhaps the most significant
impact of Lander Rotary has been
their investment in the Lander
Community Foundation (LCF). In
2008, the Club transferred the
corpus of its own local foundation
to the newly formed LCF, an
amount that today accounts for
over half of the entire balance of
the LCF.
International service efforts
have included projects in Mexico:
building schools and offering
scholarships for needy children.
The primary focus of Rotary International
has been the eradication
of polio –an effort that is near
its goal and has raised hundreds
of millions of dollars. Local Rotarians
contribute annually this
effort.
Members can also have their
Lorielle Morton is a Chamber Board Member
I was born and raised in
Lovell, Wyoming and spent most of
my youth there before moving to
Missoula, Montana after my
freshman year of high school. I
eventually fell in love with
Missoula and stuck around long
enough to receive my bachelors in
accounting from the University of
Montana. After graduation, I started
my career in public accounting with
McKee, Marburger & Fagnant, P.C.
My husband and I loved Lander
and both of us felt very settled in
the community, however, we were
expecting our first child and felt the
pull to be closer to our families (in
Montana). We moved to Billings
where I worked for a large regional
public accounting firm. I enjoyed
my time there and worked with a
broad range of clients and
continued to specialize in the area
of tax. In the meantime I earned an
MBA from the University of
Wyoming, passed the CPA exam,
Jade earned a Master’s Degree from
Rocky Mountain College, and we
welcomed our second daughter into
the world. After a few busy years in
Montana, we had the opportunity to
move back to Lander. It was a
difficult decision in terms of being
away from our families again but
an easy decision in knowing the
type of community we were
returning to and how much we
loved it in Lander the first time
around.
The move back to Lander was
three years ago now. We’re happily
raising our two daughters here (3
and 6 years old) and we’re thrilled
to be back. I am glad to be back
with McKee, Marburger &
Fagnant, P.C. where I am the tax
manager and am able to serve many
members of our wonderful
community. We enjoy raising our
daughters here, and we plan to
continue taking advantage of all the
great things Lander has to offer!
How can I market my business in a rural economy
This is the number one topic clients want
to discuss when meeting with the Wyoming
According to Bivacca, Erixon comes
