A Message
from the
Chamber
Board
President
Dear Chamber Members,
I had the opportunity last week to
Travel to Baltimore, MD for a
conference. It was a good trip
and a great conference. It is very
refreshing to venture out into the
“real world” on occasion - to see
and do some things that simply
are not possible in Lander, Wyoming.
But also to remind myself
why I only like to visit such
places and am always glad to
come home.
The trip began on a good note
since my flight on “Good Luck”, I
mean Great Lakes, Airlines actually
left Riverton on time. As
convenient as it is to fly out of
Riverton, it is always a gamble.
Anyway, as I approached my gate
at DIA for the flight to Baltimore,
I noticed a sea of elderly people
wearing red and blue t-shirts with
American flags on the back. I
soon came to know that this was a
group of over thirty World War II
Vets heading to our nations capitol
to see the monuments and memorials.
They were given a standing
ovation by all within earshot and
allowed to pre-board the plane.
In Baltimore, naval men and
women were on hand in their dress
blues to salute and escort these
men. Civilians were wildly waving
flags and cheering. It was truly
moving to witness the reception
these men received. It was not just
a small group of supporters; every
person in the boarding area was on
their feet and clapping.
The whole experience reminded
me how fortunate we are to be
American. Living in Lander, I
think we tend to be more patriotic
and true to our values than some,
but it is still easy to take for
granted how blessed we are. This
holiday season, remember what
those who have served or are serving
give up for us and our freedom.
Enjoy a wonderful holiday season.
Sincerely, Sarah Sweeney
Friends of Wyoming Life Resource Center
Sid and Sharon Humberson had a vision of having a nice
home for the guardians, friends and family to visit with
their loved ones who reside at Wyoming Life Resource
Center. The state gave permission to use the former superintendent’s
house for this need. Sid and Sharon organized
“The Friends of Wyoming Life Resource Center” in 2010
as a non-profit organization.
Willison Manor, one of the grand brick homes on campus,
has been used for this purpose for years, but the design is
not wheelchair accessible. With the addition of a ramp,
built by WLRC employees, the old superintendent’s home
is ground level and now wheelchair accessible. It is to be
used by guardians, family and friends to spend holidays
and even family reunions with their loved ones.
There will be an open house on Monday, December 5, 3-6 p.m. We are very appreciative of all the parents,
guardians, family, friends, concerned citizens and businesses who have come together to make this dream a reality
to support the clients residing at the center here in Lander. Board members are Sid Humberson, president; Paul
DeBock, vice president; Cale Case, Sharon Humberson and Connie Howard.
Great Insurances with Healthcare Solutions Team
Teresa Schwab grew up in the ranching and farming
community around Corvallis, OR and thrived on
country living and down-home values. In March
2009 she combined her love of helping others and
her skills acquired while working in hospitality,
tourism, real estate and management to begin a new
career as an insurance agent. Fighting against typical
insurance agent stereotypes, Teresa genuinely cares
about the well being of her clients and strives to conduct
business in a way that lets others know that in
the ambiguous world of insurance she’s one of the
elite few who still understands the meaning of a
handshake.
Tammy Leonhardt is a Wyoming native, rancher’s wife and the mother of two. Tammy wanted a career that allowed
her to give back to her community. She reached the decision to become an independent insurance agent because
she knew first hand as a rancher just how difficult it is to find or obtain reliable and comprehensive health
insurance coverage. Believing in hard work and honest conncetions, Tammy is considerate of others and takes pride
in providing exceptional customer service.
Teresa and Tammy are on a mission to show the world that all insurance agents were not created equal. Great
Health Insurances with Healthcare Solutions team is not controlled or run by the “Almighty Dollar.” What helps set
them apart is the fact that they do not work for any particular insurance company. There are never any charges for
the services we offer and no obligations either. They enjoy having the opportunity to help save people money by
making a personal connection, learning their individual needs and figuring out the best way to cover them from
every angle. Their clients come first, they are their priority!
Lander Elks help with food basket drive
Each year, the Lander Elks
Lodge 2317 helps the needy families
of Lander through the annual
food basket drive. More than 250
baskets full of food and toys will
be delivered in the area this
Christmas.
The Elks Lodge holds
fundraisers throughout
the year and with the
money raised buys the
turkeys for each basket
along with toys for the
children. Cabin Fever
Books also donates gifts through
their annual Angel Tree program.
Elks members and their
families deliver the baskets, this
year on Dec. 18 starting at 11 a.m.
This is the only delivery time so
families need to be home at this
time. If you can’t be home call
Elks member Deanna Green at
332-6905 or Nancy Sniffin at
332-2881.
Needy families are found
through the schools, churches or
other offices in Lander. Forms
will be handed out to students at
each of the Lander elementary
schools. People can submit their
CDS and Head Start, just
to name a few. To submit
a family’s name, call
Deanna Green at 332-6905 or
visit, too.
Toys are purchased based on
members then gift wrap the toys
and gets them ready to go to each
As a benefit of your Lander Chamber of Commerce
membership, you have access to our bulk mail stamp.
This enables you to enjoy a discount on a large quantity
mailing.
The bulk mail stamp is available at the Chamber office.
There are postal requirements to use the bulk mail
stamp, so check with Scott or Carol. For example, you
must have at least 200 pieces going to one zip code.
Once your mailing is sorted, counted, stamped and
ready to go, bring it to the Chamber office. We will do
the necessary paperwork and take it to the post office.
We will invoice you for the mailing.
You also have access to two mailing lists. The Lander
Chamber has the 82520 mailing list and the Lander
Chamber member mailing list.
These are both excellent ways for your business to
reach a large amount of people at a discounted price.
