Futures of Low-carbon Society:
Scenario Workshop
Co - organized by :
The Workshop
The project, Research on the Futures of Low-carbon Society: Climate
Change and Strategies for Economies in APEC Beyond 2050, is a
region-wide foresight research on the future society where low carbon
economy and lifestyle becomes the principal driver governing trade and
development. It will include a workshop to formulate future scenarios for the
Asia-Pacific region that illustrate technology, social, economical and political
demand under such constraints. As results, the future scenarios and
recommendations as developed from this project should reflect differences in
economic and social conditions among economies and be consistent with
our common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.
Even though the project focuses on the longer term perspectives,
recommendations will encourage immediate investment and cooperation as
part of adaptation strategy for economies in APEC. Policy makers in member
economies, companies and entrepreneurs, academics and general public
might adopt the results of this project at all levels. For more information,
Project Overview
The LCS Scenario Workshop, which is part of the Project: Research on the
Futures of Low Carbon Society: Climate Change and Strategies for
Economies in APEC Beyond 2050, aims to identify, using scenario planning
method, the key social and economic drivers originated from climate change that
put pressure on the regions long-term growth. The workshop will also analyze
emerging threats, opportunities, and the need that could possibly be responded
by technological solutions and some behavioral change in the following areas:
climate change & its impacts, migration, rural life & natural resources, society/
health, trade of goods & services, and housing & construction/urban life/
transportation. As results, the workshop will put 5 different perceptions on the
future society where low carbon economy and lifestyle becomes the principal
driver governing trade and development into structures, partly through the result
of a pre-conducted Delhi Survey. The scenarios will then be discussed in order to
create frameworks of technological solutions. At the end of the Technology
Workshop, list of science and technology solutions for the future low-carbon
society including, where possible, the roadmaps for technology development
pathways and means for technology transfer will be summarized. These should
benefit the academia, R&D community, decision-makers in science and
technology policy, and developing members of APEC.
