1885 <strong>Renoir</strong> married Aline Charigot and devoted himself<br />

especially after the birth of his sons in numerous works<br />

depicting the family, including paintings, pastels and drawings,<br />

and later sculptures. Around 1890 the artist was widely<br />

accepted and successful.<br />

In 1898, <strong>Renoir</strong> began to suffer from gout, which made it<br />

difficult for him to work. He lived from 1899 often in hot and dry<br />

south of France, since 1905 he lived permanently in Cagnes. In<br />

1904 his first retrospective exhibition was organized in Paris<br />

Autumn Salon. From 1907 Pierre-<strong>Auguste</strong> <strong>Renoir</strong> developed<br />

his sculptural work, which he made through the mediation of<br />

Ambroise Vollard using the help of the Maillol pupil Richard<br />

Guino.<br />
