Dust Enclosure for Laser Optical Assembly
The standard Lee Laser optical resonator assembly does not include a folded metal
enclosure for dust protection. This is because most Series 600, Series 800 and Series LDE
lasers are delivered to OEM customers that install the optical assembly inside their own
enclosure that is part of their workstation mainframe.
However, for customers that require it, Lee Laser can provide an optionally available folded
metal dust enclosure for the optical assembly. The Model LDE-700 Dust Enclosure includes
the following features:
0.5-inch (12-mm) thick base plate to provide added structural support to the optical
resonator
Rear end plate with feed through holes for umbilical cables and hoses
Front end plate with 1-inch (25-mm) diameter hole for beam output
2- piece, hinged folded metal cover for easy service access to optical resonator
Cover double-interlocked for operator safety (interruption closes shutter)
Indicator lamps on top at output end for emission indicator, and to show safety shutter
status (open/closed).
Several convenient lengths of Dust Enclosure available:
Model LDE-700-31: 31.5 inches (80 cm)
Model LDE-700-44: 38.5 inches (98 cm)
Model LDE-700-44: 44.5 inches (113 cm)
Model LDE-700-51: 51.5 inches (131 cm)
Model LDE-700-60: 60 inches (152 cm)
Series LDE laser models only
Selection depends on the laser model and optical accessories that are selected by
the customer
The optical beam centerline height for most lasers is 4.75 inches (12.1 cm).
Drawing No. 130157 shows a typical configuration. Lee Laser recommends use of a 3-point
support for the Dust Enclosure, as provided by pre-machined mounting holes.

In addition to dust protection for the laser optical resonator, the Dust Enclosure also provides
rigid support for the optical resonator for long-term optical alignment preservation. Should
users find the Model LDE-700 Dust Enclosure to be inappropriate for their use, Lee Laser
recommends that these users utilize the same simple but rugged construction features when
they design their own enclosure.
Special Enclosure with Scan Head Mount
For customers that intend to integrate their laser with an optical scanning head such as are
available from GSI Lumonics, Scanlab and Nutfield Technology, Lee Laser can provide a
special output end plate that has been machined for easy attachment of the scan head.
Drawing No. 130171 illustrates that design.
Enclosures for Series LEP, End-Pumped DPSS Lasers
The optical assembly for Series LEP, End-Pumped DPSS Lasers is much more compact
than for Lee Laser s lamp and side-diode-pumped lasers. For these lasers, an integral
dust enclosure is included in the purchase price of the laser.
Optical assemblies for the Series LEP lasers are available in four configurations:
basic 1064-nm optical assembly for users that will provide all of their own beam delivery
optics (ref. Drawing No. 130239)
basic 532-nm optical assembly for users that will provide all of their own beam delivery
optics (ref. Drawing No. 130293)
scan-head mount configuration at 1064 nm, that contains an optional beam expander and
mounting plate to attach an optical scan head (ref. Drawing No. 130256)
scan-head mount configuration at 532 nm, that contains an optional beam expander and
mounting plate to attach an optical scan head (ref. Drawing No. 130296)
