<strong>DRAFTING</strong> <strong>SUPERVISOR</strong><br />
FUNCTION<br />
Performs first line supervisory and advanced journey work directing the drafting activities of the Cartography Division of the<br />
Assessor's Department.<br />
SUPERVISION RECEIVED<br />
Work is performed under general direction of a higher level of authority and in accordance with established procedures.<br />
The employee is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgement in applying appropriate appraisal and<br />
assessment procedures and practices in classifying taxable property and improvements.<br />
SUPERVISION EXERCISED<br />
Exercises direct immediate to general supervision and direction of assigned technician staff.<br />
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED/ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS<br />
1. Plans, assigns, coordinates and reviews the work of subordinate drafting specialists and verifies for adherence to State<br />
Statues and Department of Revenue Guidelines or others as they relate to assigned area.<br />
2. Supervises, coordinates and performs a variety of administrative staff work such as: scheduling; maintaining records;<br />
responding to requests for information or services; performing related administrative, planning and research activities;<br />
preparing correspondence, reports, statistical information and preparation of budget materials; and developing policies,<br />
procedures and training methods.<br />
3. Completes performance evaluations; may make hiring recommendations; recommends disciplinary actions; approves<br />
vacations and time off; prepares work schedules and assignments; supervises the activities of assigned personnel;<br />
monitors reports and record keeping activities filed by assigned personnel for completeness, accuracy, and adherence<br />
to policy and procedure guidelines; instructs personnel in departmental policies, procedures and techniques; and<br />
provides training.<br />
4. Determines best course of action in the completion of assignments in assigned area including setting priorities.<br />
5. Coordinates work with other divisions within the Assessor's Department.<br />
6. Participates in the development and production of tax and area maps.<br />
7. Determines and establishes new descriptions of property.<br />
8. Compiles special district maps.<br />
9. Reproduces maps using a diazo blue line printer, engineering and/or other xerogeographic copiers.<br />
10. Researches recorded and unrecorded datum.<br />
11. Performs algebraic and trigonometric calculations.<br />
12. Assists public in locating property and respond to inquiries and complaints.<br />
13. Prepares correspondence and reports, calculates and projects fiscal budget requirements and department supplies,<br />
equipment and personnel needs.<br />
14. Maintains files and records.<br />
15. Performs special assignments as requested.<br />
16. Performs related work as required.<br />
WORK CONTACTS<br />
Frequent contact with associate personnel, other county departments, public agencies, the general public, and others as<br />

equired during the performance of work assignments to include, but not limited to, responding to inquiries, providing<br />
explanations, gathering required information, and resolving complaints.<br />
CONDITIONS OF WORK<br />
Work is subject to varying post or job site assignments and may be subject to call-back or on-call status and irregular<br />
schedules including completion of work assignments on weekends. Occasional - frequent usage of Video Display<br />
Terminals (VDT).<br />
All employees of Mohave County are subject to immediate callout when an emergency, disaster or breach of homeland security<br />
occurs. All employees are considered to be available for these types of events and will immediately respond, in accordance with<br />
County Emergency Operations Plan, when directed by the Chairman of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors, County<br />
Manager, the Homeland Security/Emergency Management Coordinator, or when directed by his department director/elected<br />
official and/or immediate supervisor. Such call to respond and assist may involve those activities assigned to his regular job<br />
responsibilities and incorporate other non job related duties as necessary and required of an employee to respond to the<br />
emergent matter at hand. An employee’s response to these matters may require the working of unusual, long hours over a<br />
possibility of an extended period of time with infrequent breaks or rest periods. An employee who is working with an<br />
accommodation must meet with their supervisor and department director/elected official to discuss their requirement for<br />
response.<br />
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES<br />
Extensive knowledge of:<br />
--the principles, practices, techniques, and methods of drafting and cartography.<br />
--the assessment function including all of the various records maintained.<br />
--formation of Mohave County.<br />
--Arizona Revised Statues particularly as it pertains to Title 42.<br />
--field engineering, surveying and construction.<br />
Practical knowledge of:<br />

--principles and practices of leadership, supervision and training.<br />
--all basic real estate title terminology and its application in the Assessor's Office.<br />
--performing drafting functions using various drafting instruments.<br />
--creating maps, map borders, legends and scales.<br />
--learning computer based procedures and working with automated input devices or digitizers.<br />
--set priorities, assign, schedule, train, supervise and evaluate work activities and to persuade assigned technical<br />
personnel effectively.<br />
--perform basic trigonometric and algebraic computations.<br />
--interpret and apply technical information encountered in the performance of responsibilities.<br />
--interpret legal descriptions and documents, survey notes, plans, diagrams, specifications, maps, and other<br />
descriptive materials.<br />
--research legal documents.<br />

--gather and to analyze appropriate relevant data and prepare and present concise and complete maps.<br />

--fulfill all physical requirements of the class.<br />
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING<br />
Any acceptable combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and five (5) or more<br />
years of successful, progressively responsible journey to advanced journey cadastral drafting experience preferably<br />
including one - two (1-2) years of supervisory experience. OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and<br />
training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities.<br />
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT<br />
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.<br />
