SUMMARY NATURE/PURPOSE OF WORK: Performs work <strong>of</strong> moderate difficulty <strong>in</strong> case<br />

process<strong>in</strong>g and legal clerical duties for the clerk <strong>of</strong> <strong>superior</strong> <strong>court</strong>. Under close supervision <strong>in</strong>cumbents<br />

perform assigned rout<strong>in</strong>e/standardized or recurr<strong>in</strong>g job duties <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g, but not limited to, open<strong>in</strong>g cases,<br />

clos<strong>in</strong>g cases, docket<strong>in</strong>g, fil<strong>in</strong>g, scann<strong>in</strong>g, appeals, and research. As experience is ga<strong>in</strong>ed, <strong>in</strong>cumbents work<br />

more <strong>in</strong>dependently on an expanded variety <strong>of</strong> assigned duties.<br />

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or GED AND one (1) year <strong>of</strong> general <strong>of</strong>fice or<br />

legal clerical experience OR any equivalent comb<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>of</strong> experience and/or education from which<br />

comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.<br />

‣ Knowledge <strong>of</strong> modern <strong>of</strong>fice practices and procedures.<br />

‣ Knowledge <strong>of</strong> automated word process<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>court</strong> case management systems.<br />

Pulls cases for <strong>court</strong>; checks for recent fil<strong>in</strong>gs; adds new fil<strong>in</strong>gs and legal<br />

documents to case file; creates new case files; assigns case numbers to new cases; enters and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>s<br />

<strong>court</strong> case data <strong>in</strong> automated case management system; issues subpoenas, executions, summons and writs;<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>s calendars <strong>of</strong> hear<strong>in</strong>gs, trials, and arraignments; completes legal documents and other materials with<br />

proper <strong>in</strong>formation; researches case files to extract and provide <strong>in</strong>formation; ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>s legal files and <strong>in</strong>dices;<br />

updates records and updates and closes files as appropriate. May notarize documents, record orders, and<br />

compile statistics; and review legal documents for accuracy and completeness.<br />

Works with parties <strong>in</strong> person and/or on the phone; provides <strong>in</strong>formation and assistance to the public without<br />

giv<strong>in</strong>g legal advice; responds to <strong>in</strong>quiries from <strong>court</strong> personnel, attorneys, judges and the public; answers calls,<br />

determ<strong>in</strong>es need/appropriate party, forwards/transfers or takes messages. Provides clerical support and<br />

assistance as required; works with and assists staff; revises and/or sends correspondence; picks up, delivers,<br />

opens and distributes mail; makes photocopies, operates fax mach<strong>in</strong>e; and provides other <strong>of</strong>fice and customer<br />

service support and assistance as required.<br />

Signs <strong>in</strong> people for <strong>court</strong>; directs visitors, defendants, witnesses, victims, jurors and other us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>court</strong> services<br />

to the appropriate location. Accepts and receives monies paid as f<strong>in</strong>es, fees, bonds and other f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />

obligations; issues receipt; updates electronic and/or manual record<strong>in</strong>g systems.<br />

Performs other functions as assigned.<br />

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:<br />

Must possess and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> a valid Arizona drivers license.<br />

May be exposed to potential physical harm and/or <strong>in</strong>fectious diseases.<br />

May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky items, equipment, supplies and/or other materials weigh<strong>in</strong>g up<br />

to 30 pounds.<br />

Work is subject to various post or job-site assignments and may be subject to irregular work hours/schedules<br />

to <strong>in</strong>clude completion <strong>of</strong> work on holidays and weekends. Work may also require travel<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Must complete annual tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g as required by the Committee on Judicial Education and Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g (COJET).<br />
