• A merger of the Norwegian Directorate for Public
Libraries, the Norwegian Museum Authority, and the
National Office for Research Documentation, Academic
and Special Libraries
• The Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority
is a public institution under the authority of the Ministry
of Culture and Church Affairs, but works across
departmental and other administrative boundaries

Financial lift
• The annual costs in public libraries, research
and other special libraries today amount to
about 300 million euro a year
• The reform would lead to an increase in the
national government investment of around 40
million euro a year
• There will also be expectations regarding a
funds increase from local authorities and
regions

The way forward to 2014
The libraries in 2014 will constitute more of a
unique and visible service offered overall,
where the users are: on the Net, in research
and training, and in the local community
