TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP
The Vice-President of Student Affairs and the Professional Development Committee will be
sponsoring several scholarships over the coming year for exempt staff to enhance their
professional development through active participation in conferences. $1,000 has been set
aside specifically for this purpose with a maximum of $334 being awarded to any individual in a
given year. The following criteria will apply:
1. Scholarships will be awarded three times per year. Deadlines for applications are:
September 30 th , January 15 th , & April 15 th . Awards will be given based on the
application date, not the actual conference date. However, reimbursement will not be
made without receipts. Applications are available from the Student Development Office,
200 S. Central Campus Dr. Rm. 270 (Union 270); completed forms should be returned to
Professional Development Committee, Union 270, by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline date.
2. A maximum award of $334 will be made per individual per year, not exceeding half of
the total cost of the event. No department will be awarded more than one scholarship
per year, unless the applicant pool on any given deadline is only comprised of offices
already awarded scholarships. The scholarships are to be requested only for
conferences not usually funded in full by the department.
3. The department or individual must provide an amount equal to or greater than the
amount awarded for funding of the professional development event.
4. Preference will be given in the following order:
a. Applicant has submitted a proposal to present at a conference.
b. Applicant plays an active, formalized role in conference planning or serves as an
officer at a professional meeting.
c. Applicant plans to attend a professional conference.
5. Applicants must submit the completed application, signed by both the participant and the
Director (Directors are not eligible for this scholarship). They must also submit any
supporting materials for consideration. This would include a conference brochure,
abstract or acceptance letter for conference presentation, letter describing their
professional role in the conference, etc.).
6. The Professional Development Committee will meet to review applications on the first
Tuesday following the deadline. Awards will be announced as soon as possible to allow
savings on registration, flights, hotels, etc. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by
letter (and, of course, encouraged to try again).
