Technical Information<br />
<strong>LPG</strong> <strong>Spark</strong> Plug Servicing<br />
While removing <strong>and</strong> replacing spark plugs, always;<br />
Remove the old plug, <strong>and</strong> clean the cylinder head.<br />
Screw in the new plug first <strong>and</strong> then tighten to the<br />
correct torque with a torque wrench.<br />
Check the spark plug connector. It is a potential<br />
trouble spot.<br />
Faulty plug connector can lead to misfiring.<br />
Small cracks can lead to poor plug connector sealing<br />
resulting in high-voltage spark-over.<br />
Contact resistance on plugs <strong>and</strong> ignition wires lead to<br />
higher stress on the ignition coils.<br />
Replace faulty spark plug caps.<br />

Air-Gap Technology<br />
When the arc forms directly between the centre electrode <strong>and</strong> the ground electrode, the<br />
ignition spark passes through the air-fuel mixture located between the electrodes.<br />
The advantages:<br />
High level ignition reliability throughout the plug’s entire service life.<br />
Good cold starting behaviour.<br />
Low engine voltage requirements.<br />
V-Groove Technology<br />
Together with the increased space between the electrodes, the sharp V-groove edges resulting<br />
from the ground electrode’s shape ensure that the ignition spark’s thermal energy is transferred<br />
easily <strong>and</strong> more effectively into the air-fuel mixture.<br />
This leads to a pronounced flame core <strong>and</strong> complete combustion irrespective of operating conditions.<br />
The advantages:<br />
High levels of ignition reliability due to the instantaneous arcing of the spark <strong>and</strong> immediate<br />
ignition of the air-fuel mixture.<br />
Additional cold start reliability even when battery voltage is low. Improved combustion<br />
protects the engine <strong>and</strong> in particular the catalytic converter. Since misfiring is avoided, fuel<br />
consumption drops even more.<br />
Note: On older vehicles a small change in timing may be required to optimise performance on <strong>LPG</strong>. Please contact your<br />
<strong>LPG</strong> installer for advice. Modern vehicles are fitted with knock detection that can automatically adjust engine timing<br />
when operating on <strong>LPG</strong>. No adjustment of the timing is necessary.<br />
