Estes Memorial Scholarship Award from WEMOCO Executive Principal Joseph salemi. Cameron B. estes memorial sCHolarsHiP award This award is for a student who recognizes that proper use of leisure time takes as much careful and thoughtful planning and preparation as does a career, and that effective use of leisure time can provide individuals with the opportunity to make a significant contribution to their communities, their families and to themselves. Throughout his life, Cameron B. Estes, a former president of the BOCES 2 Board, was a man who skillfully balanced a family, a career and a need for creative use of leisure time. Following his death in 1982, members of Mr. Estes’ family, many of his friends, as well as many associated with BOCES 2, helped establish a fund in his memory aimed at recognizing the benefits of wise and creative use of leisure time. alexa symonds Dental Assisting Class Wheatland-Chili Ferris goodridge sCHolarsHiP award danielle graupman Certified Nurse Assistant Class Wheatland-Chili tHe JoHn d. KloCK award John D. Klock served the school districts of Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES as a Board of Education member for 28 years, beginning with the Hilton Board of Education in 1962. He served on the Hilton board for 14 years, 10 of those as president of the board. In 1975, Mr. Klock was elected to the BOCES 2 Board of Education. He served on the BOCES board until 1990, as vice president for four years and president for one year. Mr. Klock was also president of the Monroe County School Boards Association from 1977 to 1978, and Area 2 Director of the New York State School Boards Association from 1980 to 1982. Mr. Klock’s years of service is a testament to his abiding interest in education and in the young people and adults in this area. His legacy to education continues today with his generous gift of a scholarship fund to benefit students pursuing vocational/technical education. lauren Piccarreto Cosmetology Class Churchville-Chili tHe ViCtor and Janet salitan memorial sCHolarsHiP award Victor Salitan served for thirty years as a school district attorney for several school districts and specifically for Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES for approximately sixteen years. Mr. Salitan was the driving force behind acquiring the BOCES facilities. He was one of the founders of Monroe-Orleans Veritas Development Corporation, one of the first not-for-profit education corporations in the State of New York. The purpose of this corporation was to purchase the BOCES 2 buildings from the LeChase Corporation, from whom the buildings were previously leased. Mr. Salitan’s foresight and expertise certainly assisted in the growth and development of BOCES 2. In 1980, the Victor Salitan Fund was established as the Rochester Area Foundation. This gift is held by the Foundation as an endowment designated to benefit BOCES 2. This generous designation is yet another example of Mr. Salitan’s vested interest in programs serving youth and affords students in BOCES programs additional opportunities. Kristyn eich New Visions Health Professions Gates Chili Victor Pratt New Visions Emerging Professions Gates Chili Christopher Zimmerman receives the WEMOCO Student of the Year Award from WEMOCO Executive Principal Joseph salemi. JoHn B. Barry memorial sCHolarsHiP award John B. Barry, known to many friends as “Smoke,” was an honored Chrysler Motors dealer with over twenty-five years of service. Barry Dodge is the oldest Dodge dealership in Monroe County. Mr. Barry was also a life-member and past President of the Kiwanis Club of Brockport and the Kiwanis Club International. In 1967, Mr. Barry was instrumental in developing the automotive program at the WEMOCO Career and Technical Center. He served with distinction on the very first Advisory Committee. The Kiwanis Club of Brockport has created a memorial fund in Mr. Barry’s honor. The monies from this fund have been given to an outstanding student in the automotive program. They receive this recognition for their natural leadership, being responsible citizens and for service to their school. michael morabito Computer Technology Class Spencerport lindsay maclaren Advertising & Digital Communication Kendall donald F. & maXine B. daVison memorial sCHolarsHiP award The Donald F. & Maxine B. Davison Foundation has dedicated a scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior who has earned distinction and is pursuing full-time study in an accredited college, university or technical school. The scholarship will be awarded to a student in the advertising design/digital communications, certified nurse assistant, or engineering & fabrication academy class at the WEMOCO Career and Technical Education Center. The student needs to have demonstrated distinction via at least one of the following: school performance, leadership, service and/or character. lindsay maclaren Commercial Art & Advertising Design Kendall wemoCo student oF tHe year For 2011 The Student of the Year is chosen from among the year’s students of the month (one each from the a.m. and p.m. sessions). Teachers of the 18 students of the month may nominate their student(s) for this award. A selection committee reviews the nominations and one outstanding candidate is chosen for Student of the Year. O’Laughlin Outstanding Senior Recognition Dinner, as the Outstanding Senior from the WEMOCO Career and Technical Education Center. One senior from each high school in Monroe County is selected, by their superintendent, for this honor based upon their scholarship, service, and character. BOCES 2 Superintendent Jo anne antonacci presented Kristyn with a crystal paperweight on an engraved wooden base. maKe all tHe diFFerenCe Foundation sCHolarsHiP The Monroe 2 Orleans Educational Foundation established the Make All The Difference Scholarships in 2002 to support students who, by choice or circumstance, need alternative programs as part of their education. Suburban News & Hamlin-Clarkson Herald - June 24, 2012 Salute to the Graduates 2012 19 Salutes 2011-12 Students WEMOCO Students Inducted Into National Technical Honor Society Fourteen students were inducted into the WEMOCO Chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). WEMOCO teachers presented students with their NTHS honor stoles. Current members Kathryn Baroody, Haley Chavira and Elizabeth Harder led the candle lighting ceremony. To be a member of NTHS a student must have a 90 or above average, an excellent attendance record, a WEMOCO teacher recommendation and be graduating with a local, Regents or Regents with distinction diploma. The students must adhere to the seven tenets of the NTHS. They are skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship and leadership. Ryan together with Alexander Borrelli, Benjamin Bowen, Dan Doan, Jason Frank, Tyler Groenendaal, Laura Hauck, Tyler Kuhn, Micah Miller, Marina Radu, Irina Ritchie, Christopher Wissinger, and Janelle Wolff were honored at a Moving On Ceremony before an audience of their families, friends, teachers and staff of Monroe 2 Orleans BOCES. BOCES 2 Board Vice President Dennis Laba and Superintendent Jo Anne Antonacci presented students with certificates, as they will be moving on to BOCES 2 transition classrooms located in the communities of Spencerport and North Chili or to adult agencies within the community. Alternative High School Ceremony at BOCES 2 Kyle Schottmiller and Alexander Enders each receive the Stephanie Austin Memorial Award from PE teacher Michael Bray (left) and Therapeutic Day Program (TDP) supervisor Ken Sharp. The award is given to students who excel in physical education in honor of Stephanie Austin, an outstanding physical education student at BOCES 2 TDP, who passed away four years ago following graduation. Joshua Knoepfler, with BOCES 2 staff members and district staff members standing behind him, holds up his diploma at the Alternative High School ceremony.
