28 Salute to the Graduates 2012 Suburban News & Hamlin-Clarkson Herald - June 24, 2012 Spencerport Class of 2012 Valedictorian: Derek Spath Age: 18 Valley Park Circle, Spencerport Parents: Mark and Michele Spath College: University of Buffalo LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS LAURA ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP – Presented by Mr. and Mrs. Anderson. Scholarships awarded to two seniors, in memory of Laura Anderson, a member of the Class of 2008, who passed away following a brief but serious illness. Jacob Jackson, Gloria Kozier DR. RICHARD L. BOUGHTER SCHOLARSHIP – In memory of Dr. Boughter, who served the Spencerport School District as the school physician for 41 years. Awarded to a senior boy or girl who plans to continue his/her education in the medical field. Lisa Wayda DONALD F. AND MAXINE B. DAVISON FOUNDATION – Accredited to liberal arts, strong will and desire to work hard to achieve his/her goals. Derek Spath JUSTIN MELIA SCHOLARSHIP – Presented by Mr. Melia. Scholarship will be awarded to a senior member of the wrestling team in memory of Justin Melia, a member of the Class of 2008 who passed away. Student must be entering a post-secondary institution upon graduating from Spencerport; must have a “B” average or higher; exhibit strong character and serve as a role model for others; and submit an essay to the Scholarship Committee responding to the question “How wrestling made a difference in my life and how will it help me in the future” Michael Roman NICHOLAS AND VIRGINIA DILAURO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Presented in their memory by families of their children to a student for study in the fine arts. Mabel Hope NORMA FROCCHI SCHOLARSHIP – In honor of Norma Frocchi for her many years of dedicated service to the profession of nursing and her impact on students, their families and co-workers. Awarded to a student interested in pursuing a degree in nursing or medical related field. Henry Le SPENCERPORT ROTARY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Presented in their memory by the Spencerport Rotary Club to a student who will be pursuing further study in the field of sports medicine. Andrea Pascucci SCHULTZ ASSOCIATES SCHOLARSHIP – Presented in the memory of Clair Edwin Schultz, P.L.S., who established the locally owned firm in 1959, to a graduating senior who will be attending a college for engineering. Mitchell Eichas Salutatorian: Janelle Goeke Age: 18 Chambers St., Spencerport Parents: James and Corinne Goeke College: SUNY Geneseo PETER SCOT MUELLER/ SPENCERPORT ROTARY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Presented to a student of outstanding character who displays good citizenship and fellowship. Desiree Hernandez SPENCERPORT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION – Three scholarships awarded: One in honor of Ada M. Cosgrove given to a student who is going into the teaching profession; a second one in honor of Mildred Snyder, a former Spencerport teacher, awarded to a student who has achieved academic excellence; and a third presented to a senior boy or girl who has achieved academic excellence while being active in the school and community, given in honor of Ellsworth J. Wilson: Frank Lattuca SPENCERPORT FEDERAL CREDIT UNION – Each year, the Rochester District of the New York State Credit Union League holds a scholarship competition for High School seniors who are members of participating credit unions. The top finishers in that competition from SFCU will be awarded our scholarship. It is based on GPA, Class Rank, SAT, and ACT scores and extracurricular activities. Glen Adams Scholarship: Mitchell Eichas William Farnsworth Scholarship: Brenna DeAngelis SPENCERPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT ROBERT FOWLER SCHOLARSHIP – The Spencerport Volunteer Firemen’s Association has named a memorial scholarship for Robert Fowler, a dedicated Spencerport volunteer firefighter and a teacher with the Byron Bergen Central School. This is awarded to a student who chooses to pursue higher education in a public safety field. Lindsay Short SPENCERPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT LADIES AUXILIARY – A scholarship for a student entering the field of fire science or medicine. Kari Maier SPENCERPORT KIWANIS CLUB – (Bruce Clements Memorial Kiwanis Scholarship) The award is based on scholarship, financial need and service to others (community, church, school). Dominique Castano-Polfleit ARTHUR AND KATHERINE MCMILLAN-KINCAID SCHOLARSHIP – Awarded to a graduating senior who has attended Spencerport Schools throughout his or her entire academic career. Superintendent Michael Crumb presented Melissa with the award, which distinguishes students based on their scholarship, service, and character. MCCOSS selects one senior from each high school in Monroe County for this honor. PreSidentiAL AwArdS Outstanding Academic Achievement The Presidential Award for Educational Achievement recognizes students who show outstanding educational growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development in their academic subjects. It is meant to encourage and reward students who work hard and give their best effort in school. These individuals demonstrate a commitment to learning and have worked diligently throughout his/her high school career. To be eligible for this award, graduating seniors must meet the minimum requirements of a grade point average between 3.5 and 4.0; scoring in the 85th percentile or above in math or reading on the SAT, and recommendation by a teacher plus one other staff member.
