Throughout his career he has received an Oscar<br />

for his song Born Free, five Academy Award<br />

nominations, two Tony Awards plus three Tony<br />

nominations, five Ivor Novello Awards, a<br />

Golden Globe and many platinum, gold and<br />

silver discs. He has worked with some of the<br />

world’s leading composers and has written<br />

over a hundred songs for motion picture<br />

including The Italian Job and True Grit. Black<br />

is currently working on a new musical, Bonnie<br />

and Clyde, scheduled to open on Broadway in<br />

early December, 2011. In 2007 he was inducted<br />

into the New York Song Writer’s Hall of Fame,<br />

and it is this that Black says is his greatest<br />

career accolade to date.<br />

CHARLES HART (Lyrics) was born in<br />

London and educated in Maidenhead and Cambridge.<br />

He has written words for musicals (The<br />

Phantom of the Opera, The Kissing-Dance, The<br />

Dreaming), opera (The Vampyr, BBC TV) and<br />

miscellaneous songs, as well as both words and<br />

music for television (Watching, Split Ends,<br />

Granada TV) and radio (Love Songs, BBC<br />

Radio). From 1990-1993 he served as a council<br />

member for the British Academy of Songwriters,<br />

Composers and Authors. His Two<br />

Studies for String Quartet was performed by the<br />

Sacconi Quartet in February 2005 at London’s<br />

Purcell Room. Other work includes radio presenting,<br />

vocal coaching, accompanying,<br />

musical direction and musical arrangement and<br />

translation. He is the recipient of two Ivor Novello<br />

Awards and has been twice nominated for a<br />

Tony Award. He lives and works in London.<br />

BRUCE LUMPKIN (Director) began his<br />

career as resident director for <strong>Theatre</strong> Under the<br />

Stars. Under Tommy Tune, he worked as collaborator<br />

on productions My One and Only, Nine,<br />

Grand Hotel and co-directed the West End production<br />

of Grand Hotel. Favorites: Dodsworth<br />

and Grossingers (world premieres), Off-<br />

Broadway Summer of ’69. WST: La Vie en Bleu<br />

(American premiere), Miss Saigon, Fiddler on<br />

the Roof (Barrymore nomination), Forbidden<br />

Broadway, Man of La Mancha, Carousel, Godspell,<br />

West Side Story, Evita, La Cage Aux<br />

Folles, Rags, Good-Bye Girl, Grand Hotel and<br />

Cabaret (Barrymore Winner, Best Director and<br />

Best Musical). Thanks to Michelle, Ashley and<br />

Lyla for all of their love and support.<br />

MICHELLE GAUDETTE (Choreographer)<br />

is glad to be back at WST. Her choreography<br />

career began with the show Texas Legacies in<br />

WHO’S WHO<br />

the Palo Duro Canyon. Choreography credits<br />

include Miss Saigon, Fiddler on the Roof (Barrymore<br />

Nomination), Forbidden Broadway,<br />

State Fair, Man of La Mancha, Carousel (Barrymore<br />

Nomination), Godspell and West Side<br />

Story. WST performing credits include La Vie<br />

En Bleu and Evita. Regional performing<br />

credits: Swing, Copacabana, Funny Girl,<br />

Victor/Victoria, Will Rogers Follies (National<br />

Tour), Tokyo Disneyland, Cruise Ships and 9<br />

years with the Radio City Rockettes in NY.<br />

Thanks to Bruce, Ashley and Lyla for all of<br />

their love and support.<br />

DOUGLASS G. LUTZ (Music and Vocal<br />

Director) has conducted more than 125 productions<br />

across the United States and internationally.<br />

WST credits include Fiddler on the Roof,<br />

The Producers, Les Misérables, Carousel (Barrymore<br />

nominations), Miss Saigon, Finian’s<br />

Rainbow and West Side Story, among others.<br />

Doug won the Carbonell Award for outstanding<br />

music direction of The Most Happy Fella at The<br />

Jupiter <strong>Theatre</strong>. Many thanks to Bernard, Mark,<br />

Bruce and Michelle. Love to Renee and Audra.<br />

JOHN FARRELL (Scenic Design) has<br />

designed more than 40 productions with Bruce<br />

throughout the U.S. In New York he is currently<br />

the resident designer for Dicapo Opera<br />

since 1992 and the exclusive Set and Illusion<br />

designer for the Magician Criss Angel since<br />

1993. This is John’s 11th production here at the<br />

<strong>Walnut</strong> since 1997.<br />

JACK JACOBS (Lighting Design) is thrilled to<br />

be back at WST. Over the past year, Jack<br />

received a Barrymore nomination for his work<br />

on WST’s Fiddler on the Roof; lit the NYU Tisch<br />

Gala at Jazz @ Lincoln Center honoring Billy<br />

Crystal and last season’s WST production of<br />

Miss Saigon. Jack continues to light Sol y<br />

Sombra Spanish Dance Co. and is resident<br />

designer for Hostos Center in New York where<br />

he lights concerts, plays and events for television.<br />

DAVID TEMBY (Sound Design) has designed<br />

productions, tours and systems for Phoenix <strong>Theatre</strong>,<br />

The Fulton Opera House, <strong>Walnut</strong> <strong>Street</strong><br />

<strong>Theatre</strong>, Childsplay Theater, the White House<br />

Communications Agency, Coca-Cola, IBM,<br />

CNN, the NFL and the U.S. Air Force. He is the<br />

General Manager of Clearwing Productions, a<br />

company that provides sound and lighting systems,<br />

designs and production management for<br />

productions such as Summerfest, Bob Dylan,<br />

Sammy Hagar, the Super Bowl, Les Misérables,
