Whenever the Walnut has strayedWho’s Whofrom a populist program, the theatre has gonebankrupt. When I came here 30 years ago, wehad no programs and no audience. Today weenjoy the largest subscription of any theatre inthe world. So, my thanks to our loyal audienceand a warm welcome to newcomers who enjoyand believe in what we do. I have tremendousadmiration for the artists who have dedicatedtheir lives to the theatre and the Walnut, inparticular. Our theatre is a non-profit 501-C3institution and we rely on contributed incometo extend our reach into the community. Lastseason we reached more than 162,000 studentsin our city schools. We have 40 trustees whogive their time, wisdom and contributions tohelp guide this historic treasure. I came to theWalnut in 1982 and I am as excited now aboutour future as I was in the beginning. My heartfeltthanks to all who enter this theatre.
