Dear Theatregoer,It’s taken 30 years for me to be able to say this—welcome to ourelectrifyin’ production of Grease! This 1950s rock ‘n’ roll musicalchanged Broadway—and Hollywood—forever, and now we’vecreated an all new production on our stage just for you. It’s theperfect way to spend our “summer nights!”The excitement continues with our 205th season, a season of dreams.I’ve selected three spectacular musicals, a classic comedy and anexciting drama that I know you’ll love. The 2013–14 season willbegin with the Tony Award–winning best musical, In the Heights. We can all relate to chasing the American dream, but you’ve neverseen it like this. With incredible music, vibrant dancing, and set in NewYork’s Washington Heights neighborhood, this tale has an excitingnew flare. It’s a groundbreaking 21st century musical and the nextchapter in the classic American story. I’m thrilled to share it with you. This holiday season, we’ll have the gift of the hilarious BroadwayPhoto: Mark Garvinmusical Elf. It’s the charming tale of Buddy, a young orphan whomistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts. He happily believes heis an elf, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth – he’s really ahuman! With Santa’s permission, he sets off on a journey to find his real family and true identity. Basedon the Hollywood hit, this jolly musical comedy is perfect for the holiday season. Our season continues with a gripping Broadway drama, Other Desert Cities. A once promising novelistannounces to her family during the Christmas season she is about to publish an explosive memoir. Theholiday season is thrown into turmoil. This acclaimed new drama from Jon Robin Baitz, the creator ofTV’s Brothers & Sisters, will have you on the edge of your seat as their family mystery unfolds.Next we’ll have Arsenic and Old Lace, celebrating its 75th Anniversary on our stage. MortimerBrewster’s charming spinster aunts have taken to relieving the loneliness of old men by inviting them infor a glass of home-made elderberry wine. It sounds lovely, until he discovers the drinks are laced witharsenic, stychnin, and “just a pinch” of cyanide! With plenty of laughs to-die-for, this classic Broadwaycomedy had my wife and I laughing out loud, and I’m sure you and yours will too.Have you ever wondered How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying? J. Pierrepont Finch uses alittle handbook to climb the corporate ladder in this Tony and Pulitzer Prize–winning satire of 1960s bigbusiness. Featuring a beloved score packed with hit songs, including “I Believe in You,” “Happy to KeepHis Dinner Warm,” and “The Company Way,” this blockbuster musical comedy will be a wonderful endto our season of dreams.Thank you for being a part of our Walnut family during this unforgettable season. I look forward towelcoming you back next year for a season of dreams. Now, start your engines, it’s time for Grease!Sincerely,PLAYBILL.COMBernard HavardProducing Artistic DirectorPLAYBILLVAULT.COMPLAYBILLVAULT.COM
