New-look sophs show improvement
Team regroups late
in the season and has
high hopes for future

BINGHAM BASKETBALL: Sophomore season recap
If you look at wins and
losses, the season didn’t go well
for the Bingham sophomore girls
basketball team. However,
coach Jenny Ford said she was
proud at how much the players
learned and the development
should pay off in future years.
“A lot of the kids came in
without a lot of experience,”
said Ford, a former Bingham
player who teamed with Jenni
Clough to lead the squad.
“We’re definitely
building for the future. We spent
much of the season teaching the
basics to try to make this a
better basketball team.”
The sophomores finished
with a 2-19 record – with both
wins coming at home against
Region 4 opponents Lehi and
Lone Peak. Megan Mecham and
Marietta Lehmitz were often the
leading scorers, but Ford said
different players came through
at different times.
“It’s tough to say who
was our top players,” he said.
“We had different girls come
through for us.”
Among them were Jentri
Pearson, Britta Gotberg, Ashlie
Larsen and Kimarie Larsen, who
missed part of this season due
to injury.

underclassmen on the varsity
and JV squads, the sophomore
team also had several freshmen.
Ford said the biggest highlight of
the year came Jan. 15, when the
team defeated Lehi and ending a
12-game losing streak.
“The girls were so
excited,” Ford said. “That was
huge for us because we had
been so frustrated for so long.
We learned something that day
and we were a different team
afterward.”
