e<strong>Health</strong> Week 2012, occurred for the second time in <strong>Copenhagen</strong><br />

on occasion <strong>of</strong> the Danish Presidency <strong>of</strong> the Council <strong>of</strong> the<br />

European Union. e<strong>Health</strong> Week has established itself as the<br />

crucial <strong>Health</strong> <strong>IT</strong> stakeholder platform for Europe.<br />

With an impressive programme including the<br />

m<strong>Health</strong> Symposium and Chronic Disease Care<br />

track, 98 exhibitors, over 70 supporting partners<br />

and a keynote from George C. Halvorson,<br />

CEO <strong>of</strong> Kaiser Permanente, e<strong>Health</strong> Week gathered<br />

more than 2500 delegates over a three<br />

day period.<br />

Press articles appeared on a daily basis across<br />

Europe and TV and radio were broadcasting live<br />

from the event. The Vice President <strong>of</strong> the European<br />

Commission and Commissioner for the Digital<br />

Agenda, Neelie Kroes and Commissioner for <strong>Health</strong><br />

and Consumer Policy, John Dalli, were amongst<br />

the VIPs who participated at e<strong>Health</strong> Week 2012.<br />

New at e<strong>Health</strong> Week 2012<br />

m<strong>Health</strong> Symposium<br />

For the first time, e<strong>Health</strong> week held a one day symposium dedicated to mobile health which gathered<br />

an impressive 150 attendees. The event was presented by mHIMSS and sponsored by Hyland<br />

S<strong>of</strong>tware, Intel and Qualcomm Life.<br />

Diabetes and Chronic Disease Care<br />

Novo Nordisk hosted a one day track, where international speakers discussed how e<strong>Health</strong> can<br />

empower people with diabetes to better manage their condition leading to an enhanced quality <strong>of</strong><br />

care. The sessions were a great success, attracting some <strong>of</strong> the largest crowds at the conference.<br />

CIO Dedicated Track<br />

As a continuation to the successful HIMSS Europe CIO Summit, e<strong>Health</strong> Week featured an exclusive CIO<br />

track. This executive level forum, sponsored by Cerner, organized by European CIO’s, equipped the audience<br />

with the tools and information to navigate a changing landscape for top leaders and healthcare <strong>IT</strong>.<br />

Innovation Pavilion and SME Competition<br />

A new addition to the exhibit show floor was the Innovation Pavilion, featuring RFID companies<br />

and innovative SMEs bringing new ideas, solutions and products to the e<strong>Health</strong> Week audience.<br />

A competition was organized to reward the best SME e<strong>Health</strong> solution <strong>of</strong> 2012. Daintel Aps was<br />

awarded first prize.<br />

Networking at e<strong>Health</strong> Week 2012<br />

Networking at e<strong>Health</strong> Week is power networking! It’s more than<br />

meeting people, it’s meeting the right people for knowledge<br />

sharing, best practices, career connections... and socialising.<br />

e<strong>Health</strong> Week 2012 <strong>of</strong>fered many different ways for attendees to<br />

connect before and during this year’s conference.<br />

Opening Reception<br />

The 2012 <strong>World</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>IT</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> & Exhibition kicked <strong>of</strong>f with an opening reception, sponsored<br />

by Esri, for all delegates on the exhibition floor. Delegates explored innovative industry solutions,<br />

whilst also got a first look at the 2012 exhibitors.<br />

WoH<strong>IT</strong> Alumni Champagne Reception<br />

The WoH<strong>IT</strong> Alumni Programme, was designed for those who attended a WoH<strong>IT</strong> conference in<br />

Geneva, Vienna, <strong>Copenhagen</strong>, Barcelona or Budapest. As part <strong>of</strong> the programme, WoH<strong>IT</strong> Alumni<br />

were given the opportunity to expand their network by joining a complimentary champagne<br />

reception on the exhibition floor.<br />

HIMSS Analytics Europe Awards Dinner<br />

At the sold out HIMSS Analytics Europe Awards Dinner 6 European hospitals were recognized<br />

with Stage 6 & 7 EMRAM. The Spanish Marina Salud Hospital de Dénia received the Stage 7 Award.<br />

Centre Hospitalier de Belfort-Montbéliard, Coporació de Salut del Maresme i la Selva, Povisa<br />

Hospital, Sosteri and Spital STS AG each received the Stage 6 Award.<br />

During this exclusive dinner, co-sponsored by Cerner, Epic and Tieto leaders responsible for<br />

transforming healthcare through <strong>IT</strong> shared their experiences and vision on how the Europe should<br />

be investing in health systems <strong>of</strong> the future.<br />

e<strong>Health</strong> Week Special Event<br />

For the first time ever, e<strong>Health</strong> Week hosted a Special Event at the Danish National Museum.<br />

Attendees networked their way through an evening <strong>of</strong> fine foods, drinks, music and friendly conversation.<br />

The event was co-organized by HIMSS Europe and EHTEL and sponsored by EMC 2 and IBM.<br />

Exhibition Show Floor<br />

This year’s <strong>World</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>IT</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> & Exhibition show floor gathered an impressive<br />

98 companies displaying over 700 products or services. HIMSS Central (comprising <strong>of</strong> HIMSS<br />

Europe, HIMSS Analytics Europe and HIMSS Media) provided the latest information on current<br />

topics in the industry and showcased its extensive product portfolio comprising <strong>of</strong> best practice<br />

awarded market reports on the European hospital <strong>IT</strong> deployment and the European hospital<br />

database. The European Commission strongly focused on sustainable healthcare and ICT-based<br />

support for dignified and independent living. The Danish PatientVille demonstrated how e<strong>Health</strong><br />

supports coherence in a Danish patient’s course <strong>of</strong> treatment.<br />

Europe Award for e<strong>Health</strong> Leadership recognises an individual who, in the judgement <strong>of</strong> the<br />

HIMSS Europe Governing Council, has demonstrated significant leadership in promoting the use<br />

<strong>of</strong> information technology in healthcare in Europe.<br />

Presentations<br />

This year’s e<strong>Health</strong> Week brought well respected leaders, all experts in the healthcare <strong>IT</strong> field that<br />

were willing to share their real life implementations and business experiences with end users. The<br />

keynote delivered by George C. Halvorson captured the audience with a message about how<br />

lives could be saved by using better <strong>IT</strong> solutions in healthcare. Supported by solid facts from his<br />

organization, he persuaded the audience that investments in <strong>IT</strong> were necessary to improve the<br />

overall quality <strong>of</strong> healthcare in Europe.<br />
