• Analogue Trunked Mobile Radio (TMR)
– In 1990 Qtel launched it’s first analogue TMR “nationwide”
network

• Today 2.500 users
• Network close to being obsolete
– Some in door coverage with Cell enhancers
– A number of companies have been allowed to implement
own solution
– 16 base stations, 1 in Doha, 1 switch
– Very little consideration on network redundancy
– Network had to be replaced or renewed if Qtel wanted to
provide PMR services!

– Commercially operational in Ras Laffan April 2005
– Complete nationwide operational from August 2006

ETSI
