Grading and Evaluation
There will be six short noncumulative exams, and the top five scores will be used in
determining the course grade (translation: you may drop your lowest exam). Each of the
five exams will be worth 20% of the course grade. The standard 10% cut-offs for letter
grades will be used (e.g., 90-100 = A, 80-89 = B, etc.), and so if your final average is at least
90, 80, 70% or better, then you are guaranteed at least an A, B, or C, respectively. If the
grade distribution warrants, then an additional grade curve may be used. Attendance
will not count toward your grade; however, you are strongly encouraged to attend. You
will be held responsible for material presented during class time.
Make Up Exams and Graduating Seniors
Make-up exams will be given only for official University absences and for specific
documented medical and family issues. All make-up exams will be administered during
the official “Study Days,” and specific times and places will be announced. In the event
that an exam is scheduled on a day that class is canceled (due to inclement weather or to

other factors beyond Prof. Hubbard’s control), then that exam will be administered during
the next class meeting.
Graduating seniors should plan on taking Exam #6 during the “Study Days,” and specific
times and places will be announced.
Extra Credit
You have the opportunity to earn credit by volunteering for the departmental human
subject pool and participating in up to 10 hours of experiments. Participation in each extra
