SOUNDLEISURE 30 YEARS
ABOUT SOUNDLEISURE
Sound Leisure Limited was founded by Alan Black and Eddie Moss in 1978. Since the launch of its first jukebox in 1980
Sound Leisure has become a name synonymous with high quality and innovative products. Still owned and run by the
original directors, the company remains the oldest single ownership company in the sector. During this period Sound
Leisure has brought together some of the finest craftsmen and technical minds in the leisure industry, the Research and
Development team continually strive to create cutting edge products that are reliable and simple to operate and service.
Sound Leisure is proud to be a UK based manufacturing company. We design and manufacture many components and
sub assemblies in house at our Leeds based factory, having a metal workshop, woodworking department and Vacforming
division at our disposal. In addition to an 80,000 sq ft manufacturing facility we also incorporate a hardware and
software division that is based in Nottingham, this division concentrates on the development and manufacture of both
hardware and software for Sound Leisure's range of products.
It is this ability to take products from concept to manufacture and final testing without the need for external contracting
that enables us to respond quickly to changes within the market place and therefore release our products when they are
most profitable for operators.
After sales service is also of paramount importance, support is offered via telephone, e-mail and web services.
Additionally, we hold regular free training sessions at our headquarters in Leeds or at an operators own premises. Access
to our technical experts and designers is only ever a phone call away. This sort of relationship between company and
customer provides a key partnership, not only to ensure Sound Leisure products perform successfully and profitably for
the operator, but equally provides us with much needed feedback on how our products are being used and therefore
potential opportunities to enhance the design and features of Sound Leisure jukeboxes.
30 YEARS OF INNOVATION
Dedication to ongoing Research and Development has been a key factor in the success of Sound Leisure since it's inception. Our reputation for innovation and creativity is second
to non within the sector. SL's development engineers are backed by a production workforce committed to maintaining the highest quality product achievable. Customer feedback
from operators and sites heavily influence ongoing product development and SL's efficient management structure enables quick decisions to be turned in to quick product
enhancements. In 2006 the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS - A department of Trade and Industry) recognised Sound Leisure's excellence as a key innovator in the region.
In addition, Sound Leisure were privileged to be asked to launch the "Inside Industry Programme" in partnership with the Manufacturing Advisory service. The programme aims
to improve regional manufacturing by promoting best practice within core business areas, enabling companies to learn from the strengths of each other. Twenty Yorkshire
manufacturing companies attended the programme launch at Sound Leisure centred on "Innovation". Delegates were joined by politicians and local press to celebrate the event
which gave an insight in to the structure and processes promoted within Sound Leisure to encourage innovation and creativity throughout all levels of the company. Sound Leisure
continue to work closely with the "Inside Industry" programme and the Manufacturing Advisory Service.
AFTER SALES SERVICE
AS STANDARD
After Sales service is of paramount importance to Sound Leisure.
In the unlikely event of any malfunction we pride ourselves that our fully trained technical
support engineers will provide a solution to resolve the problem, either over the phone or
by sending an advance replacement component out directly to the operator or site.
Whenever a new model or program update is launched we ensure that our technical
support teams are involved in the process and are fully trained on any new features or
model variations, thus ensuring that the correct information is relayed to the customer and
that any jukebox down time is kept to an absolute minimum.
In addition to technical training we also provide jukebox familiarity training for any
member of your staff involved with the site management of the product once it has been
installed.
You may be assured that you will achieve the optimum earning potential from the Jukebox
on any venue if you fully understand the simple set-up options available.
Sound Leisure design, develop and manufacture every single jukebox in-house and
therefore stock components for all of the different models that are in production. This also
applies to the majority of machines manufactured going back nearly 3 decades.
Sound Leisure utilise the best components available in the manufacturing process,
Longevity has been built in to every jukebox with many of our early machines still working
efficiently in the market.
For over 30 years Sound Leisure has been at the forefront of jukebox technology, pioneering through
vinyl to CD in the late eighties. Our 21st century CD changer mechanism remains the simplest in the
World. In 1988 we also demonstrated the Worlds first digital jukebox to a stunned audience of press
and industry representatives who were not convinced that the mp3 format would catch on!
Since then Sound Leisure has continuously developed the digital platform, releasing the Worlds first
Satellite downloading digital video Jukebox in 1998. We currently manufacture the largest range of
Jukeboxes in the world ensuring that we are best placed to offer a solution to any outlets
requirements.
DIGITAL JUKEBOX
TECHNOLOGY
Our jukebox software is designed and programmed in-house ensuring that we remain in control and
can therefore offer new and exciting features as we receive feedback from operators and users. We
currently offer 3 different jukebox technologies that can be installed in a wide range of cabinets; RPS
10000, Milestones in Music audio and Milestones in Music Audio/Video (AV). Each technology offers
an array of different features and capabilities.
Please see the table opposite in order to compare technologies.
MILESTONES IN MUSIC : AV
Sound Leisure’s ‘Milestones in Music’ technology was
previewed at ATEI 2006 and subsequently launched
in April the same year. Based on the industry leading
Audio Surfer technology, this development moved
jukebox innovation to a new level. With the capacity
to store up to 30,000 audio tracks on it’s local harddrive
this eliminates the need for a broadband
connection. This unit features every single track to
appear in the UK Top 40 since 1952, plus a wealth of
other essential tracks and albums. With music genres
as diverse as ‘50’s ballads’ to ‘Ska’ the ‘Milestones In
Music’ offers customers the ultimate music library.
Now, in another major
leap forward, ‘Milestones
in Music AV’ is available
and includes every UK Top
10 video since 1980.
As with the audio version, the ‘Milestones in Music
AV’ follows Sound Leisure’s principle of profiling the
location to filter out unsuitable tracks at specific times,
i.e.offensive language or visual imagery during
daytime and early evening periods. Subsequent music
and video updates of this type are automatically
hidden. ‘Milestones in Music AV’ features a brand
new high-resolution touch screen interface with
enhanced customer usability. The powerful ‘Date
Search’ facility is only available with MIM and MIM
AV technology and is used to locate Top 40 chart
listings for any date between 1960 to the present,
providing a unique user experience. Another new
innovation on ‘Milestones in Music AV’ is Sound
Leisure’s ‘Data Vault’ backup system. This ensures all
jukebox parameters are stored in solid state memory
external to the PC. Settings such as the music profile,
BGM timers, price of play, happy hour timers,
On/Off timers etc. are all recorded. Install a
replacement PC in the jukebox cabinet and ‘Data
Vault’ will automatically set it’s parameters to match
the original settings. No additional configuration time
is required. All the benefits of Sound Leisure’s
unmatched knowledge in this area have been
included to make the ‘Milestones in Music’ platform
the most successful technology available yet.
RPS 10,00
Sound Leisure's Audio Surfer technology was the first
digital audio jukebox software launched to convince
operators that the switch from CD to digital was a
profitable one.
Originally released in 2001 to a sceptical market the
Audio Surfer software quickly gathered a strong
following and featured in many of our most successful
products. Its original innovations included 'Intelligent
Music Management Software' which automatically
works out the most profitable tracks to add to the
jukebox library based on the trends of previous
paying customers, removing the time consuming
requirement of reviewing plays information and
compiling new selections. Reliable beyond compare,
easy to use for both customer and engineer, over
10,000 machines worldwide rely on Audio Surfer
technology.
More than 50 program enhancements have been
completed since its first incarnation, including the
addition in 2005 of the RPS10000 technology, which
allows the jukebox Music Library to be quickly and
simply re-profiled (i.e. remove categories and tracks
and add a new ones) by inserting a USB Memory Key
in to the system PC.
Technology Features Guide
Below is a guide to the many features and added extras
that are packed into a Sound Leisure Digital Jukebox.
Background Music Timers
The Background Music option enables the jukebox to be
quickly programmed to automatically play tightly controlled
selections of music during pre set periods of time. Each
individual timer can be set by: Time of day, day of the week
and beats per minute. Year Range. (i.e. play tracks recorded
between 1970 – 1979 only) BGM type (Most played songs,
least played songs or BPM Range.) Exclude individual
categories from play list, Exclude individual songs from play
list.
Intelligent Music Management System (IMMS)
The IMMS system enables the jukebox to manage the music
content automatically without the Operators involvement.
When music updates are carried out the jukebox will take the
latest Top 40 from the update then analyse the most popular
tracks from the other genres on the machine and only
increase the content of those types of music being played.
The IMMS system also manages track deletion by only
deleting music that is not being played ensuring that “cash in
box” is always optimised.
Rapid Profiling System (RPS)
The Rapid Profile System (RPS) is a major technological
advancement in as much as the music content of the jukebox
can be changed very quickly at any time. There is no need to
use generic music content, instead it is a simple operation to
provide the end user with exactly the content they want which
in turn means that the all important “cash in box” is
maintained at the optimum level.
Data Vault
All the jukebox parameters are stored on solid state memory
external to the PC. Settings such as the music profile, BGM
timers, price of play, happy hour timers, On/Off Timers,
deleted/hidden tracks are all recorded.
Install a replacement PC into the jukebox cabinet and “Data
Vault” will automatically set its parameters to match those of
the original machine. No additional configuration time is
required.
Dynamic Photo Display (DPD)*
This feature allows the site to display their own adverts and
photos on-screen. Simply take a picture with a digital camera
or create a Jpeg advert, then quickly upload them to the
jukebox directly via USB memory stick to display on screen.
Great for birthday's and quick venue promotions!
Whats On Events Guide*
This feature enables a calendar of upcoming events to be
inputted and displayed on the jukebox touch screen, where
its always handy for customers to check what’s coming up in
the venue. Originally featured on SoundLeisure’s VVS
systems the ‘Whats On Guide’ automatically displays regular
on screen advertisements to promote any site events due to
occur in the next 14 days. This gives customers a single point
for information about the activities in the venue, ensuring they
always know whats on and when!
Sporting Events Guide*
Pre loaded with the team logo’s for every major UK and
international football and rugby team. Using the Sports Event
Advert facility, quick on screen adverts featuring the teams
logo’s can quickly be created to promote matches shown in
the venue.
Bingo
You can now play Bingo on any location without the need for
a license as long as the stake and aggregate prize does not
exceed £2000.00 in any rolling 7 day period. MIM Bingo is
a great way of attracting customers to the venue on quiet
nights, featuring attractive on screen graphics and automated
audio calls. The Auto Play facility makes it extremely simple
to operate and regular on screen instructions ensure the
winners keep coming!
Trackdial / 3G and broadband delivery/Bluetooth
advertising.
Down load music updates direct to site as and when they are
released without the need for a broadband wired
connection. Allow customers to make selections and receive
promotional messages aimed at driving revenue to the
Jukebox using their own mobile phone. Full access via the
Soundnet web site to the machines reporting system and lots
more. This feature is being added to allow customers the
option to access to the trackdial feature. If you would like to
discuss this feature further please contact any of the SL sales
team.
Happy Hour
This facility offers an opportunity to allow special pricing
schemes for a pre-set time period during the week. Each can
be tailored by day, time, and price of play. A basic function
of this facility would be to offer cut-price or free tracks on the
jukebox during a “Happy hour”, or to reduce the price of
play during less busy periods of the week.
QWERTY keyboard / A-Z keyboard
New user interface switchable option. Makes search options
easier and faster ensuring the cash goes into the cashbox
quicker.
*Accessed via the managers switch. Please note that a USB hub may
be required if using this feature along with other USB options.
ADVERTISING
There are many ways of using your jukebox for advertising.
Sound Leisure's software enables advertising to be completed
at a venue using the new DPD function or via the centrally
managed advertising capability of previous machines. Below
is a description of all current advertising options:
Static Image advertising via DPD (VENUE LEVEL)
It has never been easier to advertise using static images.
Dynamic Photo Display (DPD) allows venues to load jpeg and
bitmap images such as adverts or photo's onto a USB
memory stick and upload them directly on to the jukebox. An
external USB lead ensures this can be achieved via the
Manager's Special Event switch without entering the
machine. Images can also be taken directly from a digital
camera and loaded straight on to the jukebox, which
automatically rotates and resizes the content to ensure
maximum fill on the screen. These are displayed on the touch
screen of the jukebox and on Video systems can also be
shown during the playback of Audio tracks on connected
composite video screens. Precisely directed "on site"
marketing material can advertise weekly events such as quiz
nights, food and drink promotions, sporting events or live
acts. Unlike the Brand Level advert options detailed below
this option requires no intervention from Sound Leisure, just
load your content on to a USB stick and your ready to go.
Scrolling Text (VENUE LEVEL)
Scrolling text messages can be added by the site personnel
via the "Managers Menu". This allows scrolling text to be
displayed across the bottom of any screens connected to the
jukebox. This allows promotions and infomation to be
displayed at specific periods. Timed profiles assist in
promoting the right events to the right customers.
Static Adverts (Bitmap, Jpeg) (BRAND LEVEL)
Requires security tagging by Sound Leisure Creative
The simplest form of brand advertising. This could consists of
a background image with additional text such as the
advertisers address, telephone number and web address, or
the details of a current promotion. Adverts of this type are
displayed on the jukebox touch screen. Adverts will only be
displayed if there are no credits currently on the jukebox and
if the screen has not been touched for 30 seconds. Images
taken by a reasonable quality digital camera are acceptable
for this form of advertising. Up to 50 bitmap adverts can be
installed.
Attract Mode Adverts (Flash) (BRAND LEVEL)
Requires security tagging by Sound Leisure Creative
Again this type of advert is displayed on the jukebox touch
screen when it is not been used by customers. Animated
adverts can feature any range of images, graphics or text to
help "attract" the attention of customers. This form of
advertising is considered to be more effective than still
adverts due to the movement of the animation making them
more noticeable.
If you envisage the need for ongoing advertisements, Sound
Leisure Creative recommends investing in a high quality
introduction animation featuring the company or site logo to
grab your customer's attention. This can be followed by
simple text to display the current promotions or information.
This text can be quickly changed from month to month whilst
retaining the overall impression of a high quality advert.
Customers also learn to recognise the animated introductions
as a pre-cursor to information on forthcoming events or
promotions which increases the adverts effectiveness. Up to
25 Flash Attract Mode Adverts can be installed.
Video Mpeg Adverts (Video only - BRAND LEVEL)
Requires security tagging by Sound Leisure Creative
The huge advantage of Mpeg Video Adverts is that they are
displayed on any composite video screens that are connected
to the jukebox (tv's, plasma, projectors etc) and can contain
audio such as speech or music, making them highly
noticeable. Video Mpeg Adverts are shown between jukebox
music tracks and allow the site to control the playback
frequency of the advert.
Full motion Mpeg videos can be in the form of existing
television commercials or specifically created "on site"
adverts promoting events. These can be created by " Sound
Leisure Creative" specifically to the client's specification. As
with Flash adverts these may take the form of an animated
introduction featuring the sites/company logo followed by
simple text detailing promotions. Up to 25 video adverts can
be installed.
Overlay Adverts (Video only - BRAND LEVEL)
Requires security tagging by Sound Leisure Creative
Overlay adverts have many of the benefits of Video Mpg
Adverts as they are also displayed across any composite
video screens that are connected to the Jukebox. Overlay
adverts however are not displayed between jukebox tracks,
but over the top of them.
A Background Music track is inserted into the playlist and the
audio from this is heard in the venue. Instead of the video
been displayed on screen the customer sees the overlay
advert. At the end of the advert the screens seamlessly swap
back to display the remainder of the selected track
maintaining the music ambience.
Overlay Adverts are only suitable for adverts which contain
no Audio content making them ideal for displaying Logo's,
menu's and information ads such as up and coming events
etc. The advantage of overlay adverts is that they do not
interrupt the music playback in any way and are cost
effective as they do not require a licensed audio track
dubbing onto them.
had to produce evidence that we complied with the WEEE
and ROHS regulations. We are also a member of the Better
Business Environment (BBE) forum which meets to discuss
waste management and resource efficiency. All of our
electronic products are CE certified and comply with the
DON’T BUY A REPRODUCTION JUKEBOX UNTIL YOU’VE
COMPARED IT WITH A SOUND LEISURE CLASSIC
JUKEBOX. WE’RE 100% CONFIDENT THAT OUR QUALITY
WILL CONVINCE YOU!
Sound Leisure have been hand building the finest reproduction
jukeboxes available since 1978. Originally formed by Alan Black
and Edward Moss, the company is still family owned and run. Our
range of Classic Jukeboxes maintain the styling elements often
associated with the golden age of jukeboxes including bubble tubes,
dome tops, chrome castings and subtle coloured lighting.
We remain one of only a few traditional jukebox manufacturers in the
world, however where our competitors have moved towards mass
production and plastic adornments we insist on sticking to the very
best techniques and components for our hand built Classic Jukebox
range. Internally we utilise the latest technology and Sound Leisure’s
revolutionary ‘21st Century’ 80 disc CD changing mechanism. The
simplest jukebox mechanism in the world!
Every element of a Sound Leisure jukebox is created from the finest
traditional materials and because we manufacture each jukebox
individually we’re happy to tailor it to meet your exact requirements.
Our ‘Custom Shop’ can add bespoke cabinet veneers and colours, or
create logo’s and artwork to your specification
Please call us to discuss
your requirements..
