Ballinger
The local unit shows appreciation to members
by giving each an ATPE promo item
during the school year.
Hays
Hays leaders serve on various district committees
and were involved in choosing
a different health insurance provider for
Hays CISD employees, a switch that resulted
in lower rates for most staff members.
Huntsville
After being elected to office in the local
unit’s first virtual election, all five Huntsville
officers attended Leader U 2009 to
prepare for the coming membership year.

Cypress-Fairbanks
In order to best serve members in this
rapidly growing school district, local unit
officers are assigned to clusters of schools
and mentor the campus reps at those
locations.

Local unit members mentor middle
school students through Houston Baptist
University’s Summer Academy, a twoweek
on-campus program that exposes
low-income students to higher education
opportunities.
McMurry University
With the assistance of Abilene ATPE and
Region 14 ATPE leaders, McMurry University
members have taken an interest in
political involvement and encouraging
future teachers to vote.

The local unit is the largest student
organization on the Texas A&M University–

the local unit gave a $300 literacy
grant to the school libraries at each of
Northside ISD’s four new campuses.

page on Facebook, which is attracting a
growing number of fans.
