Instructions:<br />

• An Instructor should observe you in selected areas with assigned instruments <strong>and</strong> then<br />

evaluate the patient for adequate calculus removal after scaling in those areas is complete<br />

• Multiple patients may be used to complete this competency if needed<br />

Evaluation Criteria:<br />

Student should successfully demonstrate the following:<br />

• Ergonomically correct position of self, patient, <strong>and</strong> equipment<br />

• Selection of specific h<strong>and</strong> instrument <strong>and</strong> utilization in areas as indicated by instructor<br />

• Thorough calculus removal utilizing h<strong>and</strong> instruments only (based on treatment needs, you may<br />

go back with the ultrasonic after evaluation)<br />

• At the discretion of the instructor, you may be asked to re-peat this competency or any<br />

part of it on an additional patient<br />
