Carol-Anne Bowls a Turkey
Carol-Anne Flett reached a personal sporting milestone
this month when she achieved 3 strikes in a row at
bowling.
A member of the Pin Busters team that plays regularly
on Monday nights at the Bundy Bowl and Leisure
Complex, Carol-Anne was ecstatic to get three strikes as
a row (a turkey). She also reached her highest score
with 142 which was 66 pins over her average.
Carol-Anne was proud of her accomplishment and took
her score sheet and a photo taken of her on the night to
show her class mates at Latch-On, the literacy and
technology program run by Endeavour where she is
currently a student. Everyone at Latch-On, her parents,
bowling mates and bowling staff at the complex have
been impressed with this achievement and are proud of
her for reaching this sporting personal best.
Thank you to Jill Lyle, Latch-On Co-coordinator for sharing
this good news story with us all. Congratulations Carol-Anne!!
Carol-Anne proudly displays her scorecard
with her highest score of 142
Girls Are High Flyers
The girls are flocking to fly radio controlled planes and helicopters
and the Bundaberg Aeromodellers now proudly boast seven
female flyers amongst its members. This is by far the largest
gaggle of girls in the hobby of any club in Australia. Traditionally
thought of as a male orientated pursuit, the advancement in
electric motors and batteries and the availability of ready-to-fly
aircraft make the simpler, quieter, cleaner option more attractive
to women.
The Bundaberg Aeromodellers club has recently put together a
new trainer plane, funded by a grant from the Model Aeronautical
Association of Qld (MAAQ). This plane will be used as a “come
and try plane” for people to have a go on with the aid of a dual
control “buddy system”. An experienced pilot takes one
transmitter and the learner takes the “buddy” making a safe and
fun way to try out and see if you want to learn to fly.
Another popular option for beginners is Indoor Flying which is
held once a month in the Civic Centre. Small indoor planes and
helicopters are a popular choice as a starter with the girls as well.
Physical Activity for Older People
You’re INVITED to a FREE session on “Physical Activity for Older People”
Wednesday 28 th August
5.30pm to 8.30pm
At Across The Waves – Pier One Room. A light supper will be provided - so bookings are essential
There are no rules or age limits to physical activity. Irrespective of how old you are or how often you have
exercised in the past, there is no time like the present to start regular physical activity.
There are many health and lifestyle benefits of physical activity for older adults. People
with an active lifestyle feel healthier and have an improved sense of wellbeing.
Benefits can include reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, colon cancer and diabetes.
Activity does not need to be strenuous to achieve health benefits. This workshop
explores types of suitable exercises, physiological changes that occur with ageing
along with simple programs and strategies for keeping active.
Chris Weier is the best of the best – Chris’s qualifications include a Bachelor of
Applied Science in Human Movements with Honours and he’s currently CEO of
‘Fitnance Australia”. Chris has more than a decade of experience in training people
from top class athletes to school children, community members and groups - and
talks in language that is easily understood by everyone.
