Special Olympics Bundaberg
Basketball: A big year continues for Special Olympics, with 35 athletes travelling to
Brisbane for the Basketball Regional’s for a full weekend of play. The basketball squad
continues to train each Friday night at the YMCA from 4pm and athletes with Intellectual
impairment can join in for a trial to see if they can fit into the training squad. Coach
Shane Davis and his helpers will explain how the game can help with physical activity no
matter the level of mobility.
Table Tennis: August will see the Table Tennis group play host to a Regional Carnival
here in Bundaberg. Athletes from across the State have been invited to join the fun and
compete with other athletes of similar abilities. Table Tennis training is held at the Table
Tennis Centre on Thursdays at around 4pm

Other sports still competing in Bundaberg include Gymnastics (Friday 4pm Lester St facility of PCYC), Swimming,
Athletics (Sundays 2pm at Thabeban State School Oval), and Ten Pin Bowling (Monday night and Saturday
mornings.

Funding Opportunities
Bundaberg Regional Council Community Grants Programme - Up to $5,000 is
available to provide funding to community-based groups and organisations who are
providing programmes, activities and projects that enrich the opportunities to residents.
The three streams are: Sport and Recreation; Community Development; and

organisations with funding of up to $10,000 for projects that create opportunities for more Queenslanders to become

Get Started – Funding to help kids participate - NOW OPEN - Get Started assists children and young people who
can least afford or may otherwise benefit from joining a sport or recreation club. Eligible young people receive a
