2. What is meant by the terms (i) text and (ii) graphics in multimedia application Text has been defined as: “A written passage consisting of multiple glyphs, characters, symbols or sentences”. and “the words of something written”. Thus in multimedia applications, text forms the written part of the information to be conveyed, this may also contain mathematical or scientific symbols. Graphics (from Greek γραφικός) are visual presentations on some surface, such as a wall, canvas, computer screen, paper, or stone to brand, inform, illustrate, or entertain; computer graphics are graphics created using computers and, more generally, the representation and manipulation of pictorial data by a computer. Thus in multimedia applications, graphics covers the pictorial part of the information to be conveyed and may take the form of diagrams, pictures, photographs and moving pictures either animated or from a camera. 3.
