AFLPLAYERSONTHERISE
Five AFL athletes from Maribyrnong Sports Academy have been selected to represent Victoria in the School Sport Victoria Under 15 Vic
Metro team. Year 9 and 10 footballers, Dillon Viojo-Rainbow, Peter Wright, Touk Miller, Ricky Schraven and Pele Manivong will compete
at the School Sport Australia National
Championships to be held in Canberra from 23
– 30 July.
This carnival comprises footballers from
around the country and national Selectors will
be on hand to choose an Australian team to
tour South Africa later this year. The boys are
aiming for Australian honours and they will
compete with quality players from club football,
representative football, and possibly TAC Cup
Under 16 players. Sports Academy Staff
member, Brendan Parkes will also travel to
Canberra, as the team Sports Medicine Officer
– we wish them every success!

AWESOMEARGUMENTS!
The new Maribyrnong Debating Squad has had an extraordinarily successful term! We have had
a number of teams win their debates on topics such as, ‘Should beauty pageants be banned’.
Our Year 8/9 team (Claudia Seers, Alex Dearnaley-Johnston and George Parker) are currently
undefeated. Of the forty or so teams in their competition, they are currently in first place, which is
an absolutely phenomenal result!!
We have also had a number of students named Best
Speaker in their debates. Congratulations to Claudia
Seers (Round 2, 3 and 4), Hiep Do (Round 3), Gina Le
(Round 3) and Levi Van Lammaren (Round 4). Thank
you to the many teachers and parents who have
braved chilly evenings to support the squad.
Congratulations also to Michael Samarin and Molly
Davidson who successfully represented the school in
the VCAA Public Speaking Competition. Michael was
the runner up, which was a fantastic result!!
