The “Copper Car”, one of five <strong>Thunderbolt</strong>s built. Four survive today. This<br />

one sold for $935,000 at auction recently. Once owned by actor Bruce<br />

Cabot, it has passed through several hands , and is a winner at Pebble Beach.<br />

Bruce Cabot, the actor, stared in over 100 films. One of his last appearances<br />

was in the 1971 James Bond movie “Diamonds are Forever”.

<strong>Alex</strong> Tremulis: Influential Car <strong>Designer</strong><br />

<strong>Alex</strong> Tremulis had a storied <strong>car</strong>eer in <strong>car</strong> design. As a 19-year old and without any formal<br />

training in art or engineering, he landed a job on the design team for the Auburn-Cord-<br />

Duesenberg Company in 1933. In 1936, he was named Chief Stylist for the company and<br />

remained in that role until the company failed in 1937. He then worked for GM design and<br />

later was hired by Preston Tucker to pen the 1948 Tucker. From 1956 through to the mid<br />

sixties he headed up Ford advance styling studio. One of his roles was to hunt for talented<br />

<strong>car</strong> designers in art schools across the USA. Late in his <strong>car</strong>eer he was a design consultant to<br />

Subaru, and shaped the BRAT. He was a also contributor to Road and Track magazine.<br />
