8 ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS OF THE SURVEY A questionnaire devised by the Chickerell Parish Plan steering group was delivered to every household as part of the process of producing an action plan for the parish. A total of 656 forms were completed and as can be seen from this graph, the majority of respondents live in WHAT AGE GROUP DO YOU BELONG TO Chickerell village. The graph also illustrates the extent of the "Parish", which surprised 11-15 many respondents. It must be borne in mind that, as with all 16-17 surveys, the following statistics refer only to 18-24 those who completed the questionnaire. Those residents who completed the form were almost equally divided between female (52%) and male (48%) and most people have lived in the Parish for 6-15 years or more. The dwellings are mostly owner-occupied (86%), with Housing Association rental properties being the next group at 6.9%, followed by privately rented accommodation at 3%. 1,026 people answered the question on what is important to you about Chickerell and location was the largest response at 74% followed by the environment at 56% and 45% enjoyed the community spirit (see graph above right). Employment WHERE IS YOUR MAIN PLACE OF WORK WITHIN THE PARISH This section indicated that 27% of residents who answered the questionnaire are WITHIN 5 MILES employed in the Local Government/ WITHIN 5-20 MILES Public Sector, 23% are employed in other areas not specified in the questionnaire. Only OVER 20 MILES 1% of residents are employed in I DO NOT WORK Agriculture/Horticulture. On the question of "Where is your main place of work", 32% of residents stated they do not work. 9 Transport The majority of residents, 54%, stated that they would like to see a late bus/holiday cover improvement to the local bus service. Whilst a high percentage felt that routes and bus reliability needed improving (see graph opposite right). Cars/vans are the main type of transport used by residents for getting to and from their place of work. Only 10% use Public Transport, with 9% using the Bus and the remaining 1% using the Train. Some 6% of residents walk to work and 5% cycle. More than 70% of residents felt that Vandalism was the main crime that concerned them. The same percentage felt that a greater police presence in the parish is required. A high percentage (56%) felt that a community police station is required. On the question of whether a neighbourhood watch was required - whilst 46% felt it was needed, only 39% stated they would be prepared to join such a scheme, with 55% stating they were not interested in forming or joining a scheme. Antisocial Behaviour This topic formed part of the Law and Order section on the questionnaire. The major area of concern by residents on the question of antisocial behaviour was the amount of dog fouling on footpaths and in parks (85%), with Litter Dropping being a close second (82%). Churches The highest number of residents, 55%, stated that the presence of churches was most important for weddings and funerals, with 39% saying churches were important for Sunday worship. On the question, "Do local religious groups contribute to community life" over 55% were of the opinion that local religious groups do contribute to community life.
