HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR RESOURCE SCHEME 2013 Students (families) are able to participate in the Student Resource Scheme. This Scheme greatly reduces costs to families by providing students with resources to carry out their curriculum activities. If you do not participate in the scheme, the student is required to purchase all textbooks, novels, consumables etc that are used in the delivery of the subject. Years 8 to 12 pay $190 plus additional subject costs. Additional subject costs are not negotiable as costs associated with choosing these subjects were highlighted on Subject Selection forms. Payment Options include cash, cheque, EFT or direct credit to school bank account. You can also nominate us to debit your credit card approximately on the 15 th of each month. A Payment Plan must be completed. All outstanding 2012 invoices have been carried over to 2013. No ID CARDS will be issued until a minimum of $100 is received on an approved payment plan, or payments are made in full. Family Discounts are available if paid in full prior to 29 March 2013. JAPANESE STUDENTS Are you interested in Hosting a Japanese student for 12 days (16-27 March 2013) Your family must provide: ♦ ♦ ♦ 3 meals per day (including school lunch and snacks) Room or share room with own bed for Japanese student Transport to and from school with family member Host family receives $325 tax free for hosting the student. YEAR 12 STUDENTS – must have all outstanding fees paid prior to purchasing their Formal Ticket in 2013. Payment Plans are encouraged. Centrelink have a helpful service to deduct a nominated amount either weekly, fortnightly, monthly from your Family Payment. Forms are available from Kirwan State High School Administration office or by email accounts@kirwanshs.eq.edu.au. From the Roll’s Office Student absences are to be explained by a parent/caregiver to one of the Rolls Officers (Karen Conner, Renee Curley). This may be done by phoning the school on 4773 8108 or 4773 8105 or by emailing absences@kirwanshs.eq.edu.au. Student absences of two or more days due to illness require a medical certificate. Medical Certificates should be emailed to the above email address or hand delivered to the Rolls Office. Your prompt assistance with explanation of absences will be greatly appreciated.
PACKING A HEALTHY LUNCH School’s back and it’s a great time to think of healthy and nutritious lunch ideas. Good nutrition is important throughout life, but never more vital than during the developing teenage years. Young people need the right foods for many reasons: • To give energy to participate in activities. • To provide essential nutrients to ensure correct growth and development. • To supply fuel for concentration and learning. • To create healthy habits that will last all their lives. It is a sad reality that Aussie kids today are a long way from the fit image that they had a couple of decades ago. With our sedentary lives and ‘grab and eat’ style of eating, our kids are suffering from health problems never seen in earlier generations. We are witnessing a situation were around 25% are overweight and many are so unfit that they are unable to complete standard fitness tests. Senior Leaders’ Induction Friday 26th April Performing Arts Centre 9.00am All Year 12 parents and caregivers are welcome to attend. Lunch can provide a major part of the daily nutrient intake, so it needs to be healthy and filling. Think about the following food ideas to be included for a healthy, nutritious and interesting lunch that provides bursts of energy throughout the day: • Crisp salad veggies. • Fruit – cold and delicious. • Dried fruits – great for nibbling on. • Cheese sticks and slices – good calcium source. • Healthy snack packs – like tuna and crackers or cheese and crackers – there are some great choices at the supermarket and they can be a change from sandwiches. • Low fat muffins or slices. • Pretzels and popcorn. • Frozen juice, water or long-life milk drinks – helps keep lunches cool and quenches their thirst. So let’s encourage healthy eating with great lunch choices.
