Annex ‘A’ to Information and Rules Cadetships in the <strong>Defence</strong> <strong>Forces</strong> <strong>2013</strong><br />

Army, Air Corps & Naval Service<br />

Pay, Allowances etc.<br />

1 In line with Department of Finance instructions of 23 December 2010 starting<br />

pay will be at the minimum of the scale. The rate of remuneration may be<br />

adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.<br />

All cadets will be placed on the 1 st point of the cadet pay scale on appointment and<br />

during the first year of service and the 2nd point from commencement of the<br />

second year of service until appointment to be an officer and commissioned as<br />

either Second Lieutenant/Ensign or Lieutenant/Sub Lieutenant as applicable.<br />

In accordance with instructions from the Department of Finance dated 21<br />

December 2010, the pay scale for cadets who are deemed to be new entrants to the<br />

Public Service with effect from 1 January 2011 has been subject to a 10%<br />

reduction.<br />

i. The following 5 point pay scale applies to Cadets who are new entrants to<br />

the Public Service with effect from 1 January 2011: €16,599, €17,1<strong>09</strong>,<br />

€19,582, €22,133 and €25,443.<br />

ii.<br />

The following 5 point pay scale applies to Cadets who are not deemed to be<br />

new entrants to the Public Service with effect from 1 January 2011:<br />

€18,443, €19,010, €21,758, €24,592 and €28,270. This scale only applies<br />

where the candidate is being recruited to the same or an analogous<br />

grade/role as their previous Public Service employment, whether that<br />

employment was permanent or temporary.<br />

However while enlisted personnel on appointment as a cadet will be placed on the<br />

1 st point, “mark-time” arrangements will apply should their gross income<br />

(regimental pay plus allowances) be greater that the 5 th point of the scale. On<br />

commissioning he or she will be placed on the 1 st point of the appropriate pay scale,<br />

with “mark-time” arrangements applying where their gross salary as a cadet<br />

exceeds the 1 st point of that scale.<br />

2. In general, persons commissioned as officers following completion of a Cadetship<br />

under this competition, will qualify for the rates of pay and allowance shown<br />

below.<br />
