3. On enlistment to the PDF (see paragraph 14) cadets are liable to pay PRSI<br />

contributions at the Class H rate. On appointment as an officer (see paragraph 23),<br />

they are liable for the Class A PRSI rate. In both cases, they are covered for the<br />

range of benefits under the Social Insurance code, including the State Pension<br />

(Contributory) – see also paragraph 26 and Annex B.<br />

i. The following are the current annual rates of pay and allowances (Class A)<br />

from 1 January 2011 for officers who are new entrants to the Public Service on<br />

or after 1 January 2011:<br />

Note: These are the pay scales currently applicable to new entrants to the Public<br />

Service after 1 January 2011. Please note that these pay scales may be adjusted from<br />

time to time in line with Government policy.<br />

Military Service Allowance<br />

Military Service Allowance is payable at the rate of €4,257.00 to officers holding<br />

the commissioned ranks of Second Lieutenant/Lieutenant (Army & Air Corps) and<br />

of Ensign/Sub Lieutenant (Naval Service).<br />

Patrol Duty Allowance<br />

A Patrol Duty Allowance of €48.00 per day is payable to Naval Service Cadets and<br />

€50.32 to Naval Service Officers for each day spent at sea away from the Naval<br />

Base on patrol.<br />

Flying Pay<br />

An officer or cadet of the Air Corps who is engaged in flying duties is also paid<br />

flying pay which varies in accordance with his/her rank and service. The current<br />

rate is €1,144 per annum for a trainee pilot, rising to €6,365 after 6 years service.<br />
