A Spiritual Testament 

Today’s Gospel might be referred to as the “Last Will and Testament of Jesus.” 

The passage contains five things Jesus speaks of: 

1. The Holy Spirit will teach us a deeper truth of God. The Holy Spirit will keep us right when 

unbidden danger flashes into our minds. 

2. Jesus offers us the gift of Peace which never by itself means the absence of trouble but rather 

he offers us a peace that comes from a shared life with Jesus. 

3. He speaks of his Destination. I will go back to the Father – freed from the limitations of the world. 

If you really love me, you will be glad for me. 

4. Jesus speaks of his Struggle. The cross was his last battle with the power of evil. 

5. He speaks of His Vindication. The cross was seen as his humiliation and shame but time proved 

obedience to God, and his love for all in his life found their highest expression in the cross. 

Bringing the Message Home 

Jesus speaks not only to his disciples 2,000 years ago, but he also speaks to us. We carry in our person the same worries as 

those of the past. Will we find love - a job - purpose in life - a healthy life - and the fear that accompanies most of these worries. 

Jesus offers us the Spiritual Testament of his life – tells us not to fear – gives us his peace and the Holy Spirit to enlighten us. 

What a loving gift – open your heart and receive what God offers.

SUN-DAYS/ STORM-DAYS APPEAL! 

Torrid days and torrential storms lie ahead. And as the temperature climbs, 

our Offertory Collections decline due to vacations and part-time parishioners. 

Here’s the deal on our appeal. We need to keep our AC running, our electric 

bills paid, our hurricane protection up-graded, and our Food Pantry full. So, 

we thank the faithful in advance for an extra dollar or two per week to get 

us through spring and summer. That’s the price of a six pack, or the 

savings on a back to school sale. Or if you can 

make it more: a few dollars saved from a 

Memorial Day weekend sale. And because 

hardship never goes on vacation, the good stewards 

of St Joan are also keeping the Food Pantry stocked, 

and helping to pay AC bills for our out -of -funds 

families. If everybody does a little, that adds up 

to a lot. So, for this Sun-Day and every Sun-Day 

giving is a cool thing to do. Thank You!

27 TH ANNUAL INTERFAITH CELEBRATION 

ST. JOAN OF ARC/TEMPLE BETH EL 

Last weekend, our parish and Temple Beth El continued our long history of faith and educational activities to strengthen our 

inter-community relationship, mutual understanding and respect. We thank our guest speaker Fr. Robert Leavitt S.S.,the past Rector 

President of Saint Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland who at both the Shabat service on Friday and at Sunday Mass, 

helped us understand the meaning of Covenant in Judaism and Catholicism. For many years Fr. Leavitt has been involved in 

Jewish/Catholic dialogue and has a keen interest in fostering ecumenical understanding and cooperation. For both of our faiths, the call 

of God and our response to it is critical. We are both peoples of the Covenant and share a common respect for Abraham and Moses. 

For Catholics, the life, death and resurrection of Jesus constitutes another most important phase of our Covenant relationship with God. 

Together as Catholics and Jews, we seek to be faithful to our Covenant relationship and to the living out of its implications. Since its 

inception back in 1986, our two Congregations have grown in mutual understanding, and the love we share for God's Holy Word. 

We here at St. Joan of Arc extended a warm welcome and Shalom (Peace) with our neighbors across the street from Temple Beth El.

DIOCESAN SERVICES APPEAL 

The 2013 Diocesan Services Appeal recently 

launched in parishes across the Diocese of Palm 

Beach. There are many ministries and programs 

supported by this annual appeal. Because of 

the DSA, and your generosity, the Diocese can 

continue to support the many aspects of our 

larger Church, including the 53 parishes and 

missions, and our 19 schools. The DSA is the 

primary source of funding for the Diocese, 

providing more than 70 percent of the annual 

operating income. The strength of our diocese 

comes from us recognizing God’s gifts and sharing 

a portion of these gifts for building up the Kingdom 

of God. Please contribute to the Diocesan Services

FR. MICHAEL CAIRNES 

We congratulate FR. MICHAEL CAIRNES on his recent 

ordination to the priesthood held this Saturday, May 4th 

at St. Ignatius Loyola Cathedral. 

Please join us at the 5pm Mass this Sunday, May 5th 

Fr. Michael will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving for the gift 

of his priestly ordination. Fr. Brian King will be the guest 

homilist. St. Joan of Arc priests will also be concelebrants. 

A reception will follow in Mercy Center. 

The AIM retreat will be held the weekend of June 7, 8 and 9 at the Duncan Center 

in Delray Beach. This is a retreat for the physically challenged who will enjoy a wonderful, 

spiritual, fun weekend where all their physical needs are met by their buddies, nurses 

and aides. There are still openings for the weekend. 

There is a need for buddies at this retreat, especially women. 

This is a unique opportunity to give of your time and to receive back so much more than 

you give. Give it a try, you'll be glad you did.

The Ascension of the Lord celebrates the day that Christ, in the presence of 

His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven. The 40th day after Easter Sunday

SAINT OF THE DAY 

ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER 

Feast Day was May 1, 2013 

Catholic saints are holy people and human 

people who lived extraordinary lives. Each saint 

the Church honors responded to God's invitation 

to use his or her unique gifts. God calls each 

one of us to be a saint. 

St. Joseph has two feast days on the liturgical 

calendar. The first is March 19—Joseph, the 

Husband of Mary. The second is May 1— 

Joseph, the Worker. 

“Saint Joseph is a man of great spirit. He is 

great in faith, not because he speaks his own 

words, but above all because he listens to the 

words of the Living God. He listens in silence. 

And his heart ceaselessly perseveres in the 

readiness to accept the Truth contained in the 

word of the Living God,” Pope John Paul II had 

once said. 

There is very little about the life of Joseph 

in Scripture but still, we know that he was the 

chaste husband of Mary, the foster father of 

Jesus, a carpenter and a man who was not 

wealthy. We also know that he came from the 

royal lineage of King David. 

We can see from his actions in scripture 

that Joseph was a compassionate man, and 

obedient to the will of God. He also loved 

Mary and Jesus and wanted to protect and 

provide for them. 

Since Joseph does not appear in Jesus' 

public life, at his death, or resurrection, many 

historians believe Joseph had probably died 

before Jesus entered public ministry. 

Joseph is the patron of many things, including 

the universal Church, fathers, the dying and 

social justice. 


St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, in Boca Raton FL seeks a highly motivated 

individual for the position of Administrative Assistant to provide support to the 

Director of Religious Education and Lifelong Faith Formation. The successful 

candidate will be responsible for the preparation and coordination of weekly class 

materials for the Religious Education program, the preparation and maintenance 

of all necessary records for the sacramental program. He / She will also 

maintain an updated computerized registration file as well as tuition records. 

Responsibilities also include handling phone calls and correspondence, and 

coordination of various aspects of parent meetings, catechist meetings and 

retreats as well as appointment scheduling for the Director of Religious Education 

and Lifelong Faith Formation. 

Candidates must possess excellent phone and interpersonal skills. Be 

bilingual in English/Spanish. He/she should be detail-oriented and able to 

multi-task. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, familiarity with Excel and data base 

systems is a plus. Parish Data System knowledge is a plus. Individual must 

have strong organizational skills and be a self-starter. A deep appreciation for the 

Catholic Church is required. This position entails evening and weekend work.

MEMORIAL DAY MASS 

Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery will be celebrating its annual Memorial Day 

Mass on Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m. His Excellency, the Most Reverend Gerald 

M. Barbarito, will be the main celebrant. All clergy, parishioners, and families of 

the Diocese of Palm Beach are invited to attend this Mass in remembrance of 

those who have died in service to the United States of America and for all of our

BILINGUAL ENCUENTRO TO BE HELD IN MAY 

The Diocese of Palm Beach Hispanic Ministry will hold Encuentro (Encounter) on 

Sunday, May 19, at Holy Name in West Palm Beach. This will be a bilingual 

event designed to help ministries at each parish to work together for evangelization, 

and to unite those parish resources at a diocesan-wide level in order to carry out 

the mission of the Church and for the Kingdom of God. It will feature fellowship, 

breakout groups, discussions and presentations. Last year, more than 400 people

NEW LATIN MASS AT ST. CHRISTOPHER 

A Mass celebrated in Latin has been added to St. Christopher Parish’s schedule. 

The traditional Latin Mass is offered 1:30 p.m. on Sundays at the church located

vicar of St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Fort Pierce, is main celebrant. Missals
