<strong>Luxembo</strong>urg Income Study<br />
Located in <strong>Luxembo</strong>urg since 1983, the <strong>Luxembo</strong>urg Income Study (LIS)<br />
is a cross-national data archive and social science research institute. <strong>The</strong><br />
LIS archive contains two primary databases <strong>of</strong> household-level microdata:<br />
the <strong>Luxembo</strong>urg Income Study (LIS) Database includes income<br />
micro-data from 38 countries worldwide at multiple points in time, while<br />
the newer <strong>Luxembo</strong>urg Wealth Study (LWS) Database includes wealth<br />
micro-data from a smaller selection <strong>of</strong> countries. Both databases include<br />
labor market and demographic data. Registered users may access the<br />
micro-data for non-commercial research purposes using a remote-access<br />
system. All visitors to the website may download the LIS Key Figures,<br />
which provide country-level poverty and inequality indicators, and a set<br />
<strong>of</strong> national-level indicators that highlight women’s economic outcomes<br />
and gender inequality in poverty and employment.<br />
Weicker Foundation, the Fondation Nationale de Recherche <strong>of</strong> <strong>Luxembo</strong>urg,<br />
the University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Luxembo</strong>urg, STATEC, and the <strong>American</strong><br />
<strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Commerce</strong> in <strong>Luxembo</strong>urg. Research drawing on the LIS<br />
and LWS data will be presented, including new research by LIS Director<br />
Janet Gornick, LIS Research Director Markus Jäntti, and LIS Executive<br />
Committee member Serge Allegrezza. Sir Anthony Atkinson will <strong>of</strong>fer<br />
a keynote address and 2009 Nobel laureate Paul Krugman will present a<br />
lecture open to the general public.<br />

LIS operates as a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it consortium <strong>of</strong> participating countries from<br />
Europe, North America, Central and South America, Asia and Australasia.<br />
<strong>The</strong> main LIS <strong>of</strong>fices are located in the neighborhood <strong>of</strong> Cents,<br />
<strong>Luxembo</strong>urg, and a U.S. satellite <strong>of</strong>fice, the LIS Center, is located at <strong>The</strong><br />
Graduate Center <strong>of</strong> the City University <strong>of</strong> New York.<br />
LIS hosts an annual summer workshop on the University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Luxembo</strong>urg<br />
campus for pre- and post-doctoral researchers, as well as one-day<br />
workshops, conferences, and an on-going Visiting Scholars Program.<br />
LIS is preparing an international conference on the status <strong>of</strong> the<br />
middle class in cross-national perspective, to be held in <strong>Luxembo</strong>urg<br />
