Healthy People Illawarra is proud to be the disease prevention
Healthy People Illawarra has had a busy year. This year our
activities have focussed on areas that are our real strengths, as
well as national priorities:

nutrition and food security,
active living,
sexual health and
tobacco control.
Highlights have been:

the growth and expansion of food and nutrition programs:
o Stir It Up!, a program developed in partnership with the South Eastern Sydney and
Illawarra Area Health Services, is now seen as a model on how to develop
partnerships with other organisations, volunteers and disadvantaged women to
improve knowledge of nutrition and skills in preparing nutritious meals.
o We have provided funding and assistance to 9 local schools to continue school
breakfast programs set up by HPI and produced a manual for schools on how to set
up and operate a school breakfast program
o In the Shoalhaven, primary school children are learning to cook nutritious meals at
school for their families and how to grow vegetables to put into the meals.
o We provide the secretariat for the Illawarra Food Fairness Alliance
Our sexual health program has developed a number of partnerships to address areas of
sexual health, including prevention of HIV/ AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI).
The programs have specifically addressed targeted CALD youth and has contributed to
knowledge of sexual health through community stalls and events.
Our continued involvement in promoting physical activity and in tobacco control programs.
Healthy People Illawarra has had input into the Organisation Review conducted by Healthy Cities
Illawarra. Our Management Committee have been in active discussion with the HCI Management
Committee to identify how to best structure our organisation to continue to promote the health and
wellbeing of the people of the Illawarra.
