COMMUNITY BUILDING<br />
HCI has been an active participant in the South-West Community Connect coalition of community<br />
organisations and community members working together for the wellbeing of communities in SW<br />
Wollongong. As a member of the Community Belonging Working Party, HCI has been involved in<br />
capacity building for local organisations to attract and recruit volunteers within the Dapto and<br />
Unanderra areas.<br />
HCI has continued to participate in the community network, Southern Suburbs Taskforce who meet<br />
monthly to address local and common issues in the south-eastern suburbs of the Wollongong local<br />
government area.<br />
Many programs are designed to develop community connectedness and networks.<br />
Food Fairness <strong>Illawarra</strong> (FFI)<br />
<strong>Healthy</strong> <strong>Cities</strong> <strong>Illawarra</strong> administers and provides secretarial support to the Food Fairness Alliance.<br />
This is a voluntary not-for-profit alliance of community groups, individuals, agencies and government<br />
organisations that address issues of nutrition, food security and sustainability, food quality and<br />
access for all to quality food. The alliance continues to attract new members.<br />
The alliance sets overall directions, operates working groups, comments on policies and plans of<br />
other organisations, identifies research and identifies ways of improving access to quality food for<br />
disadvantages. It also operates a website.<br />

Development of food security planning resource for local councils to inform local<br />
government Development Control Plans and Local Environment Plans.<br />
Organisation of a community event to celebrate five years of FFI and to launch the Low Cost<br />
and Free Meals Directory, funded by the 3 councils and the <strong>Illawarra</strong> Food and Biodiversity<br />
Grant.<br />
Development and launch of the FFI website http://www.foodfairnessillawarra.org.au<br />
Pursuit of relationship and funding opportunities through <strong>Illawarra</strong> Business Chamber<br />
membership.<br />
Submission to the Calderwood Development re food security and loss of local rural land.<br />
Support for local Food Rescue Organisation OzHarvest.<br />
