Our production plant in Radebeul, near
Dresden, is a major pioneer of sheetfed
offset technology, offering commercial,
packaging and book printers worldwide
the most advanced range of medium- and
large-format presses on the market. Proven

KBA-Metronic’s Genius 52UV
The Genius 52UV compact B3 press
manufactured by KBA-Metronic is a highly
profitable production tool. Available as a
four- or five-colour version, it addresses
the market for short to medium runs and
offers a raft of benefits: simple one-man
operation, extensive automation, highspeed
job changes, impressive quality
and low start-up waste. A UV capability,
optional coater and choice of delivery
extensions make the Genius 52UV a real
all-round talent. It is used the world over
to print plastic film, paper and cartonboard
up to a thickness of 0.8mm (0.03in).

The smart choice for commercials
KBA is a leading supplier of commercial
web offset presses. Alongside new products
our well-established Compacta presses
incorporate sophisticated technology and a
raft of options for 16 to 80 pages.
Compacta 215
Back in 1997 our 16pp Compacta 215 was
the first press in the world to feature
DriveTronic dedicated shaftless drives.
More than 150 installations are in daily
operation around the world.
Compacta 318
A shaftless press featuring minigaps on the
blanket cylinders, the Compacta 318 has a
maximum rated output of 70,000 24pp
A4 copies per hour and is engineered for
long print runs.
Compacta 408 and 418
Two 32pp web presses for short- and longgrain
products respectively offer a wide
choice of special features. A 40pp version of
the Compacta 418 is also available.
KBA is an engine of innovation in folder
and superstructure technology. DriveTronic
dedicated electronics and shaftless drives
are standard features on all Compacta
presses, while EasyTronic cuts makeready
times and reduces waste during press
start-up and run-down. LogoTronic networks
the press fleet with pre-press and
administrative departments within a JDF
workflow.
C16
16pp presses still represent a sizeable
section of the market and in 2009 we
developed a new, highly automated
model incorporating numerous unique
and innovative features. Called the C16,
it is available in two performance classes,
55,000 or 65,000cph. In a sector where
print runs are rapidly diminishing, the
C16’s fast makeready, low waste levels and
extensive automation address the need for
enhanced efficiency.
Compacta 217
The Compacta 217 launched at Drupa 2004
has a maximum rated output of 70,000
copies per hour and is the ideal tool for
medium- to long-run production.
KBA C16: a versatile 16pp web press with a raft of new features
C48 SG
In 2010 we launched the C48 SG, a 48pp
high-performance short-grain press
which, like the C16, incorporates an array
of innovative features. For example, the
RollerTronic automatic roller bearings
unique to KBA web presses help reduce
wear and tear on the inking rollers and thus
maintenance input.
Compacta 618 and 818
Our Compacta 618 and Compacta 818,
which are upgraded on an ongoing basis,
are available as 48pp, 64pp, 72pp or 80pp
models. They can be configured with a
standard pin folder or with our unique
variable-format V5 gripper folder.

Commander 4/1
Our popular Commander 4/1 is a highperformance
press available with all the
standard cut-offs for the non-collect
production of newspapers and semicommercials.
It has a maximum rated
output of 90,000cph and maximum web
width of 1,680mm (66.14in).
Commander 4/2
The Commander 4/2 is a first-class press
with a maximum rated output of 90,000cph.
It is in operation at prominent newspaper
publishing houses the world over.
Commander CT: compact and highly automated
Commander 6/2
For high-volume and/or high-pagination
products (48 broadsheet pages or more)
our flagship Commander is also available
with a maximum web width of 2,400mm
(94.5in).
Commander CT 4/2 and 6/2
The Commander CT is the wet offset
counterpart to our waterless Cortina and
is based on the same compact platform.
The 90,000cph Commander CT boasts
extensive automation and a raft of unique
features addressing the needs of highvolume
newspaper printers. A Commander
6/2, for example, was the press of choice
for the Daily News in New York, while
Transcontinental in Canada opted for
a heatset version of the 4/2 model for
printing semi-commercials.
Colora 4/2
A cost-effective, modular press for
full-colour newspapers, the Colora has a
maximum rated output of 75,000cph and
is configured as towers of H-type printing
units. Increasingly, heatset facilities are
being specified to allow semi-commercial
production.

Prisma 4/1
The Prisma combines the versatility of
a one-around press (two-page jumps,
variable signature layout) with the high
output of a four-across press. It primarily
targets newspaper publishing houses
where collect-run production is not a
specification.
Comet 2/2
This two-across, two-around 8pp tower
press is specifically engineered for small
to medium newspaper publishing houses
and contract printers. More and more of
our Comets are being fitted with a heatset
package.
Continent 2/1
A two-across, one-around tower press
for printing colour newspapers and
semi-commercials, the Continent has a
maximum rated output of 75,000cph and
is an effective tool for printshops where
flexibility is key to market success.
We also offer a wide choice of heavy-duty
folders, plus Pastoline and Pastomat

Our waterless, gearless Cortina is KBA’s
revolutionary contribution to colour
newspaper production in the 21st century.
It prints newspapers and semi-commercials
to high quality standards. Its compact
footprint and low-rise towers mean the
Cortina can be installed in standard
industrial buildings and requires less
manning, which cuts capital investment
and overhead costs. The absence of ink keys
and dampening reduces operator workload
and minimises waste while delivering a
superb four-colour image with a 60lpc
(150lpi) screen. The ink mist typically
associated with wet offset simply cannot
occur with the environmentally friendly
Cortina.

Whether 4/1, 4/2 or 6/2, the Cortina is not
only exceptionally efficient but also userand
maintenance-friendly. Its winning
features include PlateTronic automatic plate
changing, NipTronic remotely adjustable
cylinder bearings and a four-high tower
that splits down the centre at the touch of a
button (StepIn).
Coldset and heatset with the same inks
The major technological benefits delivered
by the Cortina are clear: coldset and
heatset copies can be printed using the
same ink, with no time-consuming changes
necessary, and hybrid coldset/heatset
copies on different types of stock can be
guided over the same former. What is more
there is no fan-out, even on wide webs.

Directory offset
KBA is a leading producer of specialised
shaftless offset presses for printing
multicolour directories. In straight mode
they can deliver up to 90,000 full-colour
signatures an hour on lightweight stock.
More recently, inline installations have
