What is important for Stony Plain is a deeper understanding of the nature of the
workers commuting to and from Stony Plain for work. With a detailed understanding of
who is commuting to work in Edmonton, Spruce Grove and Parkland County. County, the Town
could then work to build the business base requiring these workers. At the same time,
the town may have a competitive advantage in the industries that are importing
workers, which creates an opportuntiy to attract further investment in these industries.
4.2.4 Key Quality of Place Factors
Quality of place is an important deciding factor in business investment as companies
will seek to invest in communities that are attractive to their employees. Complete
communities with a strong retail and entertainment sector as well as cultural and
recreational amenities are sought after as locations for investment.
Within the Capital Region, Stony Plain sits in the middle with respect to household
income, almost equal to the regional average. Stony Plain is lower than both Spruce
Grove and Parkland County.
The community also prepared a Trail Master Plan concurrently with the MOP. Parks,
recreation, and open space all aU contribute to building a sense of community and
meeting the recreation and educational needs of the community.
Recognizing the important role of arts, cultural and heritage activities in municipal
planning, the Town is currently undertaking its first Cultural Master Plan. The
identification of cultural planning as a priority was first highlighted in the Community
