ANOINTING OF THE SICK
If you have a serious illness, are facing hospitalization and/or surgery, you should
arrange to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. You may remember “Last
Rites” but the correct name is Anointing of the Sick, which is not limited to the dying and
which should be celebrated before the sick person is unconscious, comatose or in the last
stages of death. The Anointing is offered each weekday morning upon request, during the
7:25 AM Mass. If you or your family members are unable to attend Mass, Father will
come to your home. Arrangements must be made by the prior Monday afternoon to allow
time for proper preparation.

THE SACRAMENT OF PENANCE
“The Sacrament of Penance”, is celebrated during our monthly Reconciliation Prayer
Service which is at 7:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month.
It is imperative to be present for the entire service for the participation in the service is your
penance.
The next service will be held at 7:00 pm on the 1st of August
This Sacrament is also offered by appointment. Please contact the Parish Office at 676-4403
SACRIFICIAL GIVING
A normal Sacrificial Giving Program is
a 10% contribution to a charitable
organization or church. St. Catherine's is
asking for 4%.
Or, consider giving, as a minimum each
week, your first hour's salary (or wage)
in thanksgiving for the opportunities
God has given us to work and produce
for ourselves, our families and our
communities.
Another way to respond to God's
generosity is to mention St. Catherine's in

PROCESS
Canon Law stipulates that

that the marriage preparation in the

not be set until

Dear parishioners of St. Catherine’s,
Greetings in our Lord Jesus Christ!
My full name is Santos Leonel Ortega and by the
way, my name Santos in Spanish means saints
because I was born on the great feast of all Saints
on November 1 st and, of course, I was named after
this glorious feast.
I was born and raised in Guatemala Central
America. I come from a catholic family of six
children, four boys and two girls. I’m the number
four and the only one who has consecrated his life
to the religious life. I was about 11 years old when
I began to contemplate the idea of becoming a
priest and at the age of 14, I was accepted to the minor seminary in Guatemala.
Unfortunately, due to some family problems, three years later I left the minor
seminary and began to work in order to support my family financially.
1986, I came to California and in a few months later I became officially a
seminarian for this wonderful Diocese of San Bernardino. It was precisely on this
year 1986 that our Diocese of San Bernardino for the first time was opening a
house of formation for its future candidates to the priesthood. I moved in to Fray
Junipero Serra House of Formation which was next to St. Francis of Sales in
Riverside and began to attend the local colleges: RCC, USR, CAL State San
Bernardino. And after obtaining a BA in psychology and finishing my philosophy
requirement units, I began my last four years of theology and priesthood training
at St. John Mayor Seminary in Camarillo California and, by the grace of God; I
was ordained to the priesthood by our Bishop Gerald Barnes 16 years ago on May
31 st in 1996.
My first priest parish assignment was to the community of Saint St. George parish
in Ontario for the period of 3 years. My second parish assignment was to our
neighboring parish community of St. Martha in Murrieta. After two years, I left to
become the pastor of St. Joan of Arc in Victorville in the high desert. After five
years, left to become the pastor of Holy Family in Hesperia where I have spent
my last six years of my life. Now, here I am happy and looking forward to
minister and to share my priesthood with all of you for the next two years. Peace

Hemet Vicariate Liturgical Formation Day “July 28th”
On July 28th the Diocese is providing training HERE at St. Catherine's!!! This is an all day (9:00 AM-4:00PM) workshop and
registrations must be in before July 18th (parish office). Attendance will certify or re-certify you in your ministry. Here's the
information for each workshop:
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion --
provides a formation process for effective Ministers of Communion, including theological, spiritual, liturgical and practical
perspectives for present and future ministers of the Eucharist at the altar and to the sick.
Lector Enrichment --
is designed for practicing lectors who have been reading for a while, as well as those who are new tom or interested in this ministry.
Altar Server Coordinator/Sacristan --
designed to help Coordinators of Altar Servers, Sacristans, Deacons and Masters of Ceremonies become better acquainted with and
understand the rites, signs and symbols of the liturgical seasons. How to introduce the Altar Servers to a better knowledge of the
Liturgical Documents and the principal parts of the sacristy, and to enrich their sense of service and collaboration while participating
in the celebrations of our faith.
Art and Environment --
This workshop will explain the liturgical environment throughout the seasons of the Liturgical Year, including Advent, Christmas,
Lent, Easter and Ordinary Time. It will offer practical suggestions. Jill, Please invite John Guerrero and Gisela as well as anyone

We of course want our Adults to be trained
and formed, so we offer all necessary
preparation. We also want you to know that
our children are safe at all times, so there
is a background check requirement that will
need to be done before anyone can be with
our children. A catechist is a teacher of our
faith. The word “catechist” means “to echo
the word of God”. An Aide is there to
assist the catechist and to teach when
needed to.

Confirmation Registration!
All Youth can register for Youth
Ministry. In order to register for
Confirmation, the Youth must register
for Youth Ministry which is a part of the
preparation for the Sacrament of
Confirmation. They must then attend a
meeting to receive the information and
paperwork for registering for
Confirmation. The next (and last)
meeting is today, July 15 at 5 p.m. in Di
Leo Hall.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a
while” must have been chosen for this summer season
by a committee eager for a vacation. For the apostles,
the promise of rest was foiled by the needs of the
people who discovered their hideaway and pressed
them into ministry. Some people do indeed use their
vacation for ministry and mission, giving an intensity of
service otherwise not possible. For most of us, vacation
is a time when we can grow more aware of God’s plan,
and can renew the bonds of love with family and friends
in times of play and leisure.

fertile soils for God’s word to take root and prosper.

FIESTA DE LA FE
TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Desde el Concilio Vaticano II la Iglesia, como
Pueblo de Dios, ha tomado la imagen de una peregrinación
para definir su presencia en este mundo. Para los hispanos
la peregrinación más antigua es la de Santiago de Compostela
en España cuya fiesta celebramos esta semana.
Según la tradición, Santiago Apóstol evangelizó
España y después de su muerte su cadáver fue llevado a
Galicia por acontecimientos milagrosos. En el siglo VII
señales de estrellas llevaron al descubrimiento del lugar de
su entierro y se construyó un santuario con el nombre de
Campo de Estrellas. Eventualmente, a finales del primer
milenio cristiano, empezaron las famosas peregrinaciones a
Santiago.
Después de muchos siglos la mejor manera de
llegar a Santiago todavía es a pie. Recorrer el camino de
Santiago es caminar sobre las huellas de innumerables peregrinos
que durante más de mil años han ido trazando el
sendero. Peregrinar es caminar despacio por la vida de fe,
aguantando lo que el camino ofrezca con la certeza final de
gozar la contemplación de Dios.
