A Word...
From KCBS President Lil’ Joe Sherrick
Keeping On With the Grand Tradition
...Kansas City Blues
Augusts' Character Quality
Yes, the dog days of summer seem to have arrived. The only thing that can get hotter is the great music that our
local musicians provide us here in Kansas City. We are so blessed to have so many talented musicians and venues
in the Kansas City area that it is not difficult to enjoy live blues 7 nights a week.
By the time you read this, the Blues Challenge will be underway and we have really great talent participating this
year. Whichever band wins, Memphis will be getting another great representation from Kansas City. The KCBS
website and KCBS Face book page will post winners of each round as they become available.
On August 23rd at 8 p.m. KCBS will be presenting Tad Robinson in concert at Knuckleheads Saloon, Tad is a
seven time BMA nominee and most recently as the 2011 Best Male Blues Artist. He has an incredible voice and
stage presence and you certainly will not want to miss this performance. “Tad places near the top of the list of the finest living singers of soul blues”
Downbeat Magazine
KCBS will also host The KC Blues Fest at Kaw Point on Sept. 29th in Kansas City Kansas. The headline act will be the legendary Big Bill Morganfield,
son of the great Muddy Waters, along with many great acts from Kansas City. Big Bill will be backed by KC Kelsey and his All Star band. This
first annual event will be held from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM and will be sponsored by Boulevard Brewery, Central States Beverage, Harvesters, KCK
Downtown Shareholders, and Friends of Kaw Point, just to name a few. Please watch our web site www.kcbluessociety.org for more details and
updates as new information becomes available. Friday night Sept. 28th there will be a pre-festival party at Freddy T’s in Olathe, featuring Big Bill
Morganfield with Levee Town. Tickets to the 28th event at Freddy T’s may be purchased from Freddy T’s or at the door. This is sure to be a sellout
so get your tickets early. Tickets for the festival may be purchased in advance for $15.00 through PayPal at www.kcbluessociety.org or at the gate
for $20.00. As a special offer, any donation to Harvesters at the gate will reduce a $20.00 ticket to $15.00. So plan to put on your party hats and
dancing shoes and come out to hear some great blues while helping a worthy cause.
We are still looking for donations for the “Raise the Roof” program with the Blues Foundation. This campaign is to support the Blues Hall of Fame
and is about giving a little back to the musicians that have given us so much. Your donation is tax deductible and is important to keep the Blues
alive. You can find information at www.blues.org or on our website at www.kcbluessociety.org. Have a great month and stay Coooool.
We are looking forward to seeing you out and about,
Good Bluzin’ and God Bless
Your President, Lil’ Joe
