Altogether it was an extremely productive event, which helped to bring the AAU home to a community that had not had much contact with the Association. AAU ANNUAL REPORT 2007-2008 Stellenbosch University, South Africa At the Stellenbosch University in South Africa, the Day the anniversary, hosted every year by the International Office. Speakers at the event included, Prof Russel Botman, Rector; Prof Hennie Kotzé, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Ms Monique Theron, lecturer at UNISA and former SU exchange student at Makerere University in Uganda; Ms Marike Myburgh from ASNAPP; and Dr Amadi Ahiamadu from Nigeria. November 21 2007: Courtesy call from Dr. Karl Harmsen, UNU Resident Representative with Dr. Fukuya Iino, Academic Programme officer, UNU-HQ/Environment and Sustainable Development Programme (ESD), who was visiting from the UNU-HQ, Tokyo. 11th December 2007: Visit of Mr. Peter Bonner, Programme Manager of DFID, UK. He was in Accra for the official launch of the MRCI Project. th 13 December 2007: Visit of Prof. Barney Pityana, Vice Chancellor, University of South Africa (UNISA) accompanied by Mr. Kenneth Mubu, Director, African Relations, International Relations & Partnerships Directorate, UNISA. Prof. Pityana in his capacity as Chairman of the African Council on Distance Education (ACDE) came to highlight major activities of the Council. th 15 February 2008: Visit of Prof Chris Nwagboso, Director of the Innovation & Development at the University of Wolverhampton, UK. The main objective of this visit was to develop strategic alliances that will support the development of Ghana's Universities capacity through exchange between UK Universities & Ghana Universities. 32 33
- Prof. Olusola OYEWOLE, previously Project Officer, Research & Programmes, was appointed Coordinator of the MRCI, after international advertisement and st an interview. He took up his new position on 1 April 2008. Mrs. Barnor had previously filled in as Consultant/Ag. Head of Finance for the period September to December 2007. - Mr. Yaovi ATOHOUN assumed office as Senior Information Technology Officer on February 11, 2008.
