A Tribute to
Outstanding Alumni Athletes
2012 Athletic Hall of Fame
On Friday, October 5, 2012, two alumni and one alumni team were inducted into Our Lady of Good Counsel High
School’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Alumni Cliff Brown ’66, Margaret Curran ’02 and the 1995 Girls’ Basketball Team were
honored at a tribute reception and then recognized in front of GC fans prior to the Homecoming Varsity Football game
against DeMatha.

athlete while at Our Lady of
Good Counsel High School,
competing as a three-year
baseball athlete, a two-year
football player and a two-year
basketball player.
Cliff, a starting first baseman
for the Good Counsel Falcons,
was named Most Valuable
Player his senior year. Cliff
was among team leaders in
hitting each year. He also
was recognized by the
All-Catholic League.
As a junior, Cliff was an offensive end starter for
the varsity football team and as a senior, and he continued
his success in the position but also started as a defensive
end. He was the second leading receiver his senior year.
The Our Lady of Good Counsel High School Falcons
finished the season with a record of 7-1-1, having lost to
John Carroll, which was ranked #1 by the Washington Post.
In addition to playing baseball and football, Cliff was a
part-time starting forward for the varsity basketball
team his junior year and went on to start his senior year.
Cliff averaged seven points per game.
In 1966, Cliff received the Most Valuable Athlete Award,
and he and Tom Dickerson ’66 received the Best Athlete
awards, as selected by their classmates.
After graduating from Our Lady of Good Counsel High
School, Cliff received an athletic scholarship to George
Washington University. As a sophomore, he started as
the first baseman for the Colonials. As a senior, Cliff led
his team in RBIs, including the most game winning RBIs.
Moreover, Cliff was one of three Colonials who was named
as an All-Conference nominee. In 1970, his team won the
Southern Conference Division. Cliff was coached by
Steve Korchek and Chuck Stobbs, both former
Washington Senator’s players.
In 1970, Cliff received his BBA from George Washington
University, and in 1972 he graduated with an MBA from
George Washington University, majoring in finance and
marketing. Cliff has had a 40+ year career in the energy
industry worldwide as an investment analyst, banker,
investment banker, international consultant, executive
manager and principal in
natural gas exploration
and development
companies. Cliff
and his wife, Alicia
Caulfield Brown, reside
in Washington D.C. ✦
