Educational Courses FRIDAY, JUNE 10, 2011<br />
<strong>The</strong> educational courses on Friday, June 10, 2011, are not included<br />
in the general admission registration; all educational courses<br />
are additional fees and are ticketed. If the educational courses<br />
are not sold out, tickets are available for on-site purchase at the<br />
registration counter. <strong>The</strong>re are three educational tracks to choose<br />
from. Total CE credit for each course is four. All educational<br />
courses will include continental breakfast and a morning<br />
refreshment break from 10:15am – 10:30am.<br />
01: COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF DENTAL SLEEP MEDICINE<br />

Overview: This educational track is designed for those newer to<br />
dental sleep medicine. A review <strong>of</strong> sleep medicine will quickly<br />
improve the participant’s knowledge base in sleep and what can go<br />
wrong. Our expert faculty will then take the participant through<br />
the basics <strong>of</strong> treating sleep apnea with oral appliances, including<br />
the patient examination and appliance type selection, as well as<br />
titration considerations and complications management.<br />

Topics Include:<br />
1. Review various oral appliances for obstructive sleep apnea;<br />
2. Explain TMD and the sleep apnea patient including methods<br />
for preventing and managing symptoms from the use <strong>of</strong> oral<br />
appliances; and<br />
3. Evaluate various clinical cases <strong>of</strong> sleep apnea treated with oral<br />
appliance threapy.<br />

Overview: Participants can expect to improve their understanding<br />
<strong>of</strong> dental sleep medicine in specialized areas <strong>of</strong> expertise. Selected<br />
topics will be presented in depth, allowing the practitioner to<br />
improve their skill in understanding and/or treating complex<br />
concepts and cases.<br />

1. Explain the effects <strong>of</strong> mouthpiece use on gas exchange parameters<br />
during steady state runs in college males and females;<br />
2. Discuss how to implement a multidisciplinary approach to dental<br />
sleep medicine;<br />
3. Review the recent findings related to TMD and nocturnal bruxism;<br />
and<br />
4. Assess a patient using information provided from a live patient<br />
demonstration.<br />

All Meet the Pr<strong>of</strong>essor sessions require additional fees and are<br />

purchase at the registration counter. During these small-group<br />
sessions an expert in dental sleep medicine will lead an informal<br />
discussion on a single topic.<br />

Overview: Timely and useful information will be presented that will<br />
help the experienced practitioner improve care by adding to their<br />
knowledge-base. Clinically-oriented topics will improve the participants<br />
understanding <strong>of</strong> advanced concepts and improve their ability to<br />
critically evaluate the current literature and industry supported claims.<br />
